Tutorial 3: Create a New Plot (continued)

  1. Talk to Johan

    The player will notice that Johan's backyard is locked so he will have to talk to Johan to get in. Johan will say that the player can have a key to his backyard if the player can help find a necklace he misplaced.

    1. Name this node "Talk to Johan"
    2. Select the object type of Creature from the Type dropdown box
    3. From the name dropdown box below that, select Johan as the object to interact with.
    4. Press Next
    5. The player will talk to Johan so select Conversation as the event.
    6. Press Next
    7. The player will get asked to do a task so select Quest/Informational as the conversation type.
    8. Press Next
    9. Make the conversation look like this:

      Greeting - NPC Text
      What can I do for you friend?

      Acceptance - PC Text
      I need access to your backyard please.

      Action - NPC Text
      You can have a key to the gate if you find my necklace. It should be around here somewhere.

      Rejection - PC Text
      Nothing, good-bye

    10. Press Next
    11. This conversation will only appear to players who have talked to Quentin and accepted the quest. This means that this node depends on the successful completion of the Initial Greeting node. This should be set up by default so you can just press Next
    12. Once again, a default conversation must be defined but this time for Johan. Leaving it as the default is fine so press Next
    13. The journal should be updated so select the Create Journal Entry on Completion check box.
    14. Assign the text "You must find Johan's necklace before he will let you into his backyard." to the journal.
    15. Press Finish
  2. Find Johan's Necklace

    Here is where the player will open the chest and retrieve the necklace. This has to be a separate node because the journal will update to inform the user what the next step is, also because the player will obtain a prop.

    1. Name this node "Find Johan's Necklace"
    2. Select Placeable Object from the Type dropdown box.
    3. Select Chest from the Name dropdown.
    4. Press Next
    5. There is no conversation here but the player will open the chest, so select Open a Door or Container as the type.
    6. Make sure the checkbox below this option is checked. This is for when the object that is opened has something for the plot. In this case it will contain Johan's copper necklace
    7. Press Next
    8. The chest is not locked so leave this page blank and press Next
    9. In the Loot: Item for Player To Take box, select the Copper Necklace from the list of props. This is the only control on the window that is active.
    10. Press Next
    11. The journal should be updated so select the Create Journal Entry on Completion check box.
    12. Make the journal text "Return the necklace to Johan and he will let you into his yard."
    13. Press Finish
