This is the quote that I would like to comment on....
"Which brings be to the other necessary ingredient in creating a good game, and that is good players. You can put on an Oscar-winning performance, and if there are no others to respond to and interact with, then the game really never happens so to speak."
As a DM there is nothing worse then having a good roleplaying person try to roleplay and have others speaking of the latest joke about.... well nevermind. You know what I mean.
I still believe the players make the game, the DM has the imagination to get it started, but if the players don't have the imagination and roleplaying to go along with it. Then nobody will have fun.
As for NWN: OMG!!! Finally a game where roleplaying can be and IS enforced by most. No more of this "Yes we will boot people for not roleplaying." All I got to say is for Bioware to let us the players rule, is... well... godlike. *winks*

P.S. LadyRolePlay does deserver a bow for without her input other people couldn't of roleplayed off of her.

I would also like to express the sentiment that it is the players that make a great game... they deserve the full credit. The reason I love developing and shaping the stories of Dragonspire is because of my players, all exceptional roleplayers and storytellers. The players drive the story in Dragonspire, and even the smallest contribution by a player can change the overall "plot" in a tremendous way. Roleplaying begets roleplaying, too... if you have a bunch of strong roleplayers, the players who are less strong at roleplaying tend to follow their lead.
Too many times as a DM, we are tempted to take control of the situation and play out the stories that WE want to see. However, the game really is about the players... it has always been my philosophy that the DM is a director, a producer, but NOT the main storyteller. Like the Narrator in "Into The Woods", he is as much a part of the story as the actors, with equal billing, no more, no less. The players are center stage... we are the backstage hands that make sure the lights come on at the right time, the curtains change at the appropriate cue, and that all the terrible things that happen backstage do not affect the show on stage. It's all smoke and mirrors, as I always tell my players.
The screenshots were provided courtesy of the Dragonspire Media Archive (and ultimately, Bioware, because the screenies are from NWN, after all). I can provide captions for those who are interested... the shots ranged from LRP/Arwen speaking at the funeral for a major PC (PCs do die in Dragonspire) to LRP/Arwen sitting and reading at her house.
Also, my name is misspelled several times in the interview. *grin* Sorry, I have to rib ya on that, LRP.

Bravo! I love to see more women online in role-playing games. If I had it my way it would be a 50-50% split... it would change the flavor of the game and make for a more culturally diverse gaming experience overall.
Plus, frankly, women players seem to help new players much more often, imho.

There is nothing I like more, than good roleplayers in a serious roleplaying enviroment. Unfortunatly, I have yet to have found a server with roleplayers I can journey with continuously. I often find myself having one good night of roleplaying with a group of people, that I will never see again.
I just wanted to ask these quick questions. What category is Dragonspire under? What timezone does it follow? |
