The first official expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights has been announced and will be titled "Shadows of Undrentide". The expansion features a new single player campaign, additional monsters, classes and more! We have created a new Shadows of Undrentide section that will be populated with information as it becomes available, and there is a new Shadows of Undrentide forum. Read the full press release for more details!

Awesome. But here's the 100 Million dollar question: Will there be a Linux version?

Great!
I hope bioware makes a fortune so they can continue to expand the game.
Now, what does that mean to those of us running servers. Do I have to have an Undrentide server to run modules created with the Undrentide toolset? If I am running an Undrentide server, can users without the expansion play on my server? Will there be a stand alone server released?

I have pretty much the same concerns as krgallagher. This certainly seems to have the potential to fractionalize the NWN community. I'd certainly hate to be running an "fairly" popular server and have to make a decision on making The Great Leap, which might involve losing a significant percentage of my existing players.
Maybe I'm just overconcerned. |

I feel that anyone who has this game will buy ALL EXPANSIONS available. Everyone I know will.
Also - Thanks, for the update as to when the expansions will come out.. I will buy them.

This is probably a stupid question, but will the expansion pack integrate into the original campaign (like the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion for Baldur's Gate) or will they be seperate entities?
Also, how much is it likely to cost?

... the information on the original title was vague too, even up until its release in our faces. I will never forget the screaming about editiing saved games.
Making the real question... when will we get the specifics? The interview at Gamespot was a little bit more informative than the press release. It shoould be interesting to see some of these new feats and spells coming in that were left out.
But as for me ... ... new spells ... new classes (prestiege) ... new tilesets ... new voices ... new heads Would be good enough for me. (Yeh, Im not asking a lot).

KIRT
Since the expansion pack will probably be released before the Linux client, it's pretty doubtful. And if it requires a separate client to run this, then it's very doubtful.
But I hope it will work for us Linux users.

This is great and exactly what I been waiting for. I think many of us might be less interested in the extra adventure and more interested in new builder content, classess and Spells
I AM CONVINCED THAT THERE IS A GOOD MARKET FOR JUST NEW BUILDER CONTENT, sorta like a monter manual, tileset manual or extended rules. Similar to all the different books that exsists for D&D.
I know that I personally will probably never play the module but I promise to buy the expansion the first day it's available just for the new content. But then again another adenture is never wrong.
I don't see a problem with a "split" in the comunity. It's probably true that online players need all the exapnsion packs available to be able to play all online games. But online gamers are always looking for new content anyway and this is cleaner then having to download hakpaks of varied quality. Buying an official release every 6 months is fine buy me.
One problem is what the "starting" cost for new players will be. i.e. do a brand new player have to buy all the expansion at once to be able to play online? This could be a problem.
But This game will slowly die if not more content is released. The comunity does a great job creating new free content but I believe the game will last longer with new OFFICIAL releases that can extend the game even more. Official releases will also hold a higher (average) standard then the release we can make our self. They can also change the core of the game more then we can (by removing level restriction or adding riding . This release shows that Bioware has long term interest in the game so this is truly good news for the comunity
I also agree with BtDM about the things he wish for. My top priority would be new TILESET and PLACEABLES together with MORE HEADS AND CLOTHING STYLES for PC's (Robes and Cloaks anyone?)
This game Rocks.

OK *makes a happy dance*! Now make you mistake with the Collectors Edition good by releasing this one with a CE also at the same time, so all the hardcore gamers/players of the first hour doesn't have to buy a second copy of NWN to get the goodies. If you cannot make it in time, announce one so we have a choice in waiting (I'm willing to wait for a CE version of the expansion when I know it's coming soon after it's release)! That would be a very good thing to do BIOWARE!

Will the monster attack routine bug be fixed in this expansion or is Bioware going to address this problem before the expansion? |

They'll probably include some kind of patch in this release, if not you can download it easily enough.
