The Basilisk is one of over a dozen new creatures in Shadows of Undrentide. Teeth that glint like expensive fountain pens, lightning fast predatory reflexes, and an icy glare that can paralyze any citizen unfortunate enough to cross its path are all characteristics of this terrifying six-legged creature. More on the Basilisk in this profile - screenshots included!

Hey the Basilistk screenshots are some of the best of the desert tileset yet.

Finally back to the tease of a real Neverwinter Wednesday. Sure we all saw the Basilisk already and we still don't know important things like the Dc of this paralyzing gaze- nor have we seen anyone actually fall victim to this gaze which makes me think it is less dangerous then they are letting on. But hey- the games coming out tomorrow right?

I said, RIGHT?

Anybody who played through the BG series can tell you that these puppies can be tough customers if poor strategies are used to engage them when encountered. (I.E.- melee players closing in with no fire or spell support from a distance) They have a much better look for SoU now, and I'm still not worried. I'll be licking their innards off my sword soon enough.....

Know why that clown's a FROZEN DEAD clown, boys and girls? Because he didn't CHECK THOSE CORNERS!

I know that basilisks are supposed to petrify with their gaze but it doesn't say anything about that it the short write up, it just says paralyze. Also, it indicates that they eat their paralyzed victims, would they eat you if you were turned to stone? If their diet consists of stone, why go bothering adventurers?

You know what I saw in those screenshots? Ancient buildings half-buried in sand. Now /that's/ a plus. I can use those kinds of Tiles for a whole bunch of things.

And yes, I'm a little disturbed by what I read about the Basilisk causing paralysis, not petrification with its gaze. I hope we're not going to be cheated out of Flesh-To-Stone/Stone-To-Flesh effects. If full visual paralysis could be created, it'd be a simple matter to use the Stoneskin VFX to simulate petrification, and require the use of a Stone-To-Flesh spell to save the trapped PC. If this isn't included in the OC, I give it about a week before somebody scripts up a working version on their own.

If every RP queen in here had it his way, we would all play gnomish fighters with negative strength because it's sooo realistic and non-powergaming.

I am sure there will be a way to change the basilisk's attack capabilities. I.e. from paralyze to petrify. They probably just did this for the OC game.

I was wondering whether there were greater and lesser basilisks. Or is there only one type?
