Well, let me start by saying that I'm sorry that it's been so long since my last post. Getting a project like this off the ground can be a very time consuming and slow moving process. Fortunately, if you put all the pieces together correctly, things smooth out and speed up quickly.

Of course, the big question has been, "Is the toolset coming to Mac?" We have had a developer looking at the toolset code. Porting the toolset to Mac will be a much bigger undertaking than we had hoped and cost more than we had anticipated. That being said, I can tell you that we still intend to bring the toolset to Mac. I am trying to finalize budget approvals and the development contract, but work is already well under way with the port. (A big thanks to our developer for their willingness to get to work on this right away.) Given the complexity of the project, it will likely take longer than we had initially anticipated. There is still the slight possibility of a major roadblock preventing the toolset port, but I'm confident that won't happen.

Several people in our office have been playing NWN and working with the toolset, and I've got to say that we are more excited than ever to bring this title to Mac users.

I'll try to monitor the forums a bit this week and would be happy to answer any of your questions.

I'm glad to hear that the porting of the Toolset has commenced. I'm sure all macusers agree with me when I say that we would really appreciate having a Toolset to build modules with, and, thanks to you, we might just get the chance.

Please continue to keep us posted on the status of the project, good or bad

Thanks!

Ok, so are all the annoying bugs going to be ported to the Mac client as well? If so, good. We'll have more voices here complaining about what a buggy pos it is.

Bumping... and moving the questions from the other Mac NWN thread over here.. Most recent:

Quote:
1. Whenever NWN for Mac is released (2006?), will the modules and other content created for the PC version even work with the Mac version? Or is it going to be like Baldu's Gate, where the Mac version was so far behind the PC version that playing online was impossible.

2. What is the status of the Toolset? Who is porting it? Has the work begun yet? Is it hopeless? Have you delayed the Mac client/server for nothing?

3. Are you all still hitting each other with pool noodles?

A little bit older...

Quote:

Bio - can we at least get system requirements? so we can start saving for a new machine if we need to?

and some older ones..

Quote:

2 - When will the Mac Beta test be?

4 - Will the Mac Version include all the already released patches? (I know..most ports normally do..but I want to be sure)

5 - When is it going to be released?

Those are all the ones I remember seeing (or asking) in the other thread.

Bio-Can we get this thread made sticky?

Could you shed some light on what the other big problem is that could bring down the toolset?

It's good to hear that you are progressing with the toolset. That's what I was waiting to hear before I decided to purchase NWN or not. Now one more question that will sway that decision -

- Will the toolset AND the game allow for cross-platform play? Will we be able to network with the linux and windows users? Will mac made content work on linux and windows? Will windows made content work on macs? I'm not interested in another Baldur's Gate fiasco where we were told one thing, then delivered something else after purchase.

Thanks

WE HAVE A STICKY!!!!!

Ahem. Having regained my composure, questions arise:

1) How is the non-toolset Mac work progressing?
2) Is it still in-house, or has it been transferred to MacSoft?
3) When it is completed, will the toolset be maintained by Bioware or MacSoft?

It's good to hear the toolset is truly coming. We will finally be on an even footing with PC users (if you don't consider the 500+ modules already out there, or the 3-5 months extra experience, or... - never mind.)

Go MacSoft! Go Bioware!

In regard to the questions about cross-platform play and design-Yes, the Mac version will play with the PC version and all items designed with the Mac toolset will work with the PC version.

I am still being a bit cautious with toolset announcements. Not because there is any one thing that seems to be a problem but because it is such a complex piece of software. There's always a chance that some insurmountable hurdle will pop up. However, such instances are rare and we don't see any giant red flags flying right now. If you haven't seen the toolset, let me tell you that it is a FANTASTIC piece of work.

Our beta tester list is pretty full right now. If you think you've got outstanding qualifications and have tested software before, drop us a line at macsoftgames@mac.com and we'll consider you for the test.
