Could someone please show me a list of what differn't types of alcohol there is in 3rd edition D&D and thier descriptions. I know there is shadow dark ale but I also know there is others but I have no descriptions for any of them. I'm currently working on a tavern and I need more types of alcohol then just (spirits, ale, and wine)

cheers

I am sure you could probably find a whole bunch if you did a web search.... OR Look in other Forgotten realms games ( BG 1 and 2, IWD 1 and 2) I know there are some there... Or just take a FR map and make (cityname) ALE, WINE etc etc

The Volvo's Guide series is a great resource for this type of thing.

They do indeed have lots of "flavor" information Threee of them are available free for downlaod from WotC here: Click Here

You will need a zip utility and Adobe Acrobat to read them.

The Volo's Guides are arranged by place, though, and I saw no index or list specifically of alcoholic beverages. Still, after browsing briefly I picked up:

Mintarn wine (an odd tasting, green served chilled),
Zzar (a kind of grain liquor, though not detailed in the entry I saw), Firewine, Saerloonian Glowfire, and Evershimmer.

I'm sure you can pick up even more through careful reading. I highly recommend them.

Also, an out of print source called Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue has lots of things like this as well. I don't believe you can (legally) download it from the web FOR FREE, but it is available for download for about $3 someplaces online.

i posted this a while ago and had a copy on the hard drive -- hope it helps.

you can download the book it came from in pdf for about $5

i don't have a link.

Hi

According to the Aurora's whole realms catalogue these wines, ales and ciders are available through Aurora and his staff. The can magically transport some stock.

I'll add the per-barrel cost to give an idea which dinks are more expensive. (There are no per cup or pint prices listed) Some descriptions mention that some drinks are strong. More than that I can't help you with.

All this from the Wines and Ales section -- pages 126 - 131. (In summary -- I can't be bothered typing the entire entry on each drink the book is a great book though for adding a bit of colour to a campaign. – For instance I mention death cheese in a description of an ale – the cheese is described in the cheese section of the book

Also I have taken great care with the spelling of the place names but apologise in advance for any spelling errors in general )

Ales and Beers:

Bitter Black:
This hearty stout form Arabel is one of that city's major exports. Best served at cellar temperature (the Arabellans sniff at serving it any other way) the stout is heavy and jet black with a dark brown head of foam.

5 gp per barrel.

Dragon's Breath Beer:
A Sembian brew of strong, harsh temperament, Dragon's Breath os often served with a plater of dark rye bread and death cheese.
2 gp per barrel.

Elminster's Choice:
This is among our most popular brews, made and shipped from Immersea. Whether the name is authorised by Elminster himself or just a marketing ploy, this dark beer, cloudy with yeast and having a heavy head, is of standard quality. Its bitterness leaves a smoky aftertaste and is preferred by adventurers around the Wyvernwater.
2 gp per barrel

Golden Sands Brews:
Southern brews, including these Cali***e beers, are rare, interesting and lighter drinks called larger. They are lighter in taste and, colour, and weight and have more effervescence. Golden Sands Brew comes in varying types. Each with different additives to alter the taste of the base larger. These are available only through ports at Baldur's Gate and Waterdeep. Though we will attempt to distribute to a wider clientele in the near future.

All brews are 25 sp per barrel.

Golden Sands Basic:
Unadulterated larger with no added flavourings after brewing. It has a pale yellow colour, white foam and light bubbles.

Golden Sands Gold:
The basic brew specially fortified with extracts of cacti and nettles, giving the beer a sharp, more bitter aftertaste and its deeper golden colour.

Golden Sands Orange:
Braced with the flavour of orange and currant, this unique lager has an acidic aftertaste but is sweeter than the basic lager.

Iriaeboran North Brew:
Dark Amber brew with a harsh bitter after taste
AKA as "The bite of the North"

12 sp per barrel.

Luiren's Best:
Brewed by the Smokardin clan of coastal Luiren this hefty stout is black as ink and nearly as think as the snows of the spine of the world. Found easily in Luiren and Halruaa and the shinning south. It has a sweet flavour and a frothy head.
5 gp per barrel.

Old One Eye:
This beer, its containers stamped with a brand of a cyclops head, is brewed in Llorbauth on the southern coast of the deepwash just north of the thorn wood. Has a fiery red colour and a "hot spicy" after taste this brew is a one of a kind.
3 gp per barrel

Shadowdark Ale:
This frothy ale is almost sinister in appearance with a pale yellow foam atop a cloudy brown bubbly liquid. Despite its appearance the ale is excellent with a light bitter taste. Brewed in Shadow dale and is often drunk by adventurers in the old skull inn.
35 silver (3.5 gold) per barrel.

Suzale:
This fine quality ale has a pleasant nutty flavour and is specially prepared by the royal brewer of the house of King Azoun IV of Cormyr. Its proper title is "purple Dragon ale" but most people call it Suzale.
5 gp per barrel.

Tanagyr's Stout.
This product is one of the few exempted from trade embargos against Zhentil Keep. A heavy pitch black stout with a low rich malt flavour – the richest, smoothest, headiest drink this side of Evermead.
6 gp per barrel.

CIDER.

Knee Cracker:
This Cider, derived from local pressings of wind fall apples, is available in bulk. Stronger than ale but weaker than wine this is a robust cloudy drink
1 gp per barrel.

Purple Hill Cider:
This clarified cider, prepared in Myratma, comes from a mixture of apples and accent fruits (cherries, plums, quinces, gooseberries) from the purple hills orchards of Tethyr. A fine fruity Cider with the punch of strong wine.
5 gp a barrel.

Vilhon Cider:

Made in Nimpeth on the south shores of the Vilhon Reach. This heady cider is strong in its sweet flavouring of apples, cherries, blueberries and pears. An exquisite cider best served hot with cinnamon or cloves.
7 gp barrel.

Wines.

Arabellan Dry:
This fine red wine is very dry and should be served at cellar temperature to best exhibit its woodsy undertones and slightly berrylike taste.
6 gp per barrel.

Berduskan Dark:
Berduskan dark wine is a heavy sweet and burning wine. It is very dark in hue, almost black, and high in alcohol content. It is highly prized by some across the realms. It was once bottled in cooperation with the Burduskan Alchemist guild. But after a falling out with the Vintners guild this practice stopped.
60 gp per barrel.

Blood Wine:
Blood wine is a product of Aglarond has a heavy body and a deep-red tone. The taste is lush and full with a slight afterbite. It's said that the wine is grown on twisted vines possessed by the dead who enacted petty cruelties upon other while they lived.
10 gp a barrel.

Clarry:
A blend of table wines sweetened with honey and spices, pink Clarry is a treat for any special occasion.
5 gp per barrel.

Evermead:
Evermead is the elven mead the one against which all other meads (and any other drinks) are compared. A sip is reputed to be a taste of the higher planes themselves. Made by closely guarded traditional methods and allegedly aged for hundreds of years very few kegs of Evermead reach Non-eleven hands.

30 gp a Bottle.

Fire Wine:
This thick almost black wine made in the old empires is named for the fire it creates in one's belly. Fire Wine is an extremely strong and spicy wine and is reputed to have medicinal qualities.
46 silver per barrel.

Mead:
A delicate wine made from honey.
6 gp per barrel.

Saerloonian Glowfire.
A pale chartreuse wine renowned for its faint luminescence. Glowfire is nether sweet or very dry and has a taste reminiscent of summer breezes and pears.
7 gp per barrel.

Saerloonian Topaz:
Topaz's yellow amber colour is what lends it its name. It's slightly dry and has a nutty quality balanced by bold fruit overtones.
5 gp per barrel.

Undermountain Alurlyath:

(I liked this one so much I included the full description from the book)

A surprisingly sweet white wine with a slightly nutty aftertaste. This wine is a rare and limited annual acquisition. Its wonderful taste and full body are a further enhanced for a romantic evenings by its prominent silver and green luminescence. Stored in ceramic bottles and kegs to prevent its light from fading during transport. Without contacts to its secret creators one can not even buy more than a hand keg from Skullport, its port of origin. Although my Waterdhavian buyer will not divulge the location of the winery within Undermountain's confines, I have translated the elvish name of the name of the wine to mean "best of the temple"
5 sp per ceramic bottle (1 qt.) 5 sp a hand keg, 8 gp per cask.

Westgate Ruby:
A bold crimson wine with a slightly acid inclination.
3 gp per barrel.

Wine Spiced:
Spiced wine, our best form Calimshan and Tethyr, is a taste treat and sovereign remedy for many ailments. Raisin, cinnamon, fennel, anise, nutmeg and clove varieties available.
Raisin, cinnamon, fennel 5 gp per barrel
Anise, nutmeg 6 gp per barrel
Clove 7 gp per barrel.

Wine Table:
This good wine, red or white, is available in bulk.
25 sp per barrel.

Winter Wine:
This unusual wine indigenous to the north is a purplish-blue hue, often leading to jokes that the grapes that went into making it "caught a chill". This is quite true, as the grapes are allowed to freeze on the vine. They are then harvested and crushed while still frozen. Winter wine is strong and sweet and is usually served in small quantities as a desert. The Chessentan berries that give the blue tinge also lend it a unique spicy tone.
8 gp per barrel.
