I already posted this question in the DM forum, but this forum might be more appropriate, so I'm posting it here, too.
----
If I want to make one of those thematic mods that follows one of the areas of faerun, what would be a good one to do?
I know of a few that have been done. I've seen the Fallen Lands, Cormyr, the Vast, and I think maybe the Great Dale. There's no point in doing one that's already being done. Better to add variety, I think.
So what's a good area?
I have the basic FR handbook, as well as the Unapproachable East handbook, and I've seen a book for the Silver Marches. I don't know of any other source books to use.
The only problem with using about any part Unapproachable East is that it has a lot of prc's people would be apt to want to play as, and that would mean having to use a hak. It might be worth it, though. I'm just not sure I want to go haked. |

In addition to the UE and SM books you mentioned, the only FR "area" book is the new Underdark book. Obviously, that's been covered.
I would suggest the Mulhorandi -- or however you spell it -- lands, including Unther. They may technically be in the Unapproachable East. I cannot remember for sure. Anyhow, they are a very "Egyptian-esque" culture and are at war with Unther, though neither country is inherently evil. You also get to through different gods into the mix.
Another idea would be the kingdom of monsters out in the east-southeast. I forgot the name of that place, too. (I'm out of practice. ) |

As I see it most part of Fearun have been done. I mean places with an heavy background.
I think you should first go on a place you like ! always better for your inspiration, even if this already exist.
if not : - Shinning south - The Shaar / Great rift - westgate
I didn't see any of it or don't remenber it ! |

Is there documentation for any areas other than the 5 places in the unapproachable east, the silver marches and the underdark?
You're right most of those are probably done, but I'd hate to start on another only to find that everything I'd done was wrong and there was documentation on it I didn't know about. |

You should check out the book "Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting" it has info on every place in Fauren with some good campaign ideas. Mostly it will give you Geography, Deities, Magic, Characters, Organizations, etc of Fauren.
Lots of good info in the book and it comes with a full wall size map of Fauren, which is really nice.

Hail ive been working on Cormyr for a large PW project that has been acepted into copap (check out www.copap.org for more info on that) and I have got a small team put together so far but can always use some good motivated builders/scripters or future DM's/Questbuilders.
If you havent found a project yet, your welcome to join our team if your interested, copap is a community that is trying to link together all of faerun on multiple servers. If your not interested just let me know, thanks for taking the time to read this

'I have a small forum that gives some progress updates at this time, eventually there will be a full websit there when we are closer to having a playable mod ready. |

I have always been partial to Ansalon, and the lost continents,oh wait,.....:D
I sooo want to do a DL mod, with the proper class restrictions and PR classes, but alas, it is too much work.
All Hail Ishtar!
Anyway, I know that was no help. _________________ Irritatus Maximus, Cleric of Tempus, Bane to all things organized, Party Nemesis, source of many a spectacular death. |

Actually, I'm looking for people to work with in creating a module idea I have set in the Unapproachable East/Old Empires (Between Chessenta and Aglarond to be specific). The two great books to have in working with these areas are the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting 3rd Edition (best DnD book published, ever;) and the Unapproachable East book published this year.
If you're interested in working on a module in that area, see the thread found here and give me an e-mail. _________________ -Demaratus Demaratus@gmail.com Various Dabblings

I always loved the... what was it called? Empires of the Sands?... especially Calimshan. I like, worshiped that place. *grin*
Second edition had a ton of FR sourcebooks published. Just looking over at the pile beside my computer, I see- 'Empires of the Sand' (Amn, Tethyr, Calimshan- three money obbsessed countries =P (there's also a boxset called 'Lands of Intrigue' dedicated to Amn and Tethyr, and a book called Calimshan dedicated to self-named area)) 'Anauroch' (Desert of the Bedine, where the City of Shade now rests (it wasn't there at the time of this book, though!)) 'Dreams of Red Wizards' (Thay- slave city, mon) 'Elves of Evermeet' (Evermeet, of course- an elven adventure? ;P) 'Moonshae' (Moonshae, no da- Isles of Doom =P) 'The Savage Frontier' (The world north of Waterdeep- fun!) 'The Bloodstone Lands' (Vaasa and Damara, mostly- the 'unclaimed wilderness', or perhaps not) 'Old Empires' (Mulhorand, Unther, and Chessenta- the 'once powerful lands', you could say) 'Great Glacier' (The Great Glacier- the land of cold =P) 'The Shining South (Halruaa, Dambrath, Lurien, Durpar, Var, Estagund, and Ulgarth- a whole variety, really)
And those are only the ones beside me; there's one on the Dalelands, one on Zhent Keep, one on Hellgate Keep, one on the Sword Coast, two on Cromyr...
They published a ton of FR books back in second edition, then. ;P
If you're looking for them- first, check the WotC main site. They offer a few of them for free downloading (I'm pretty sure the Calimshan one's there). Then, check a local comic book store or gaming store, if you have one- maybe it's just because the guy who runs our store knows me real well, but I can usually get 2nd edition D&D books from him at 3.99, if not less. Failing that, there's an online store that allows you to download them for five dollars are so... and failing that, Amazon and other book companies are likely to have them, although at a more expensive price. Ebay might have some, too, as well. You also *could* probably find them on Kazza/WinMX or whatever downloading program you may use, but I don't recommend that. =/ It's just not good behavour, and besides, there's probably fines with all this copywrite obbsession going around. =P |
