Automatic Hak Pak Downloads!: Hak Pak Updater Released

Revinor, author of mdl2ascii and a long time community member has announced that his Hak Pak Updater (beta ver 0.9.1) is now available for download.

As reported 2 weeks ago on NWVault and on the CC Forums, Revinor's Hak Pak Updater is a client/server interface for launching multiplayer games for NWN. In any module that requires a hak pak, Hak Pak Updater does the following:

- automatically logs on to the specified hak pak server and checks the status of the hak pak to see if anything has been changed;

- if you do not have all of the elements in the latest hak pak for the module, the Hak Pak Updater client will selectively download only those files in the hak pak which you do not have - saving you the download of the entire hak pak if only a few models or textures have been changed;

- Hak Pak Updater identifies files within a hak pak by identifying their unique MD5 checksum - not simply their file name. This means that if you have downloaded the file within a given hak pak as part of another hak pak on another server - you will not have to download it again;

- Hak Pak Updater stores all the files within your hak paks within its cache, permitting the client to essentially build the necessary hak pak for use in a module on the fly prior to the game commencing;

- Hak Pak Updater's server application tracks all your hak paks, building file lists and handling the selective downloading of files.

In short - Hak Pak Updater is a godsend to multiplayer NWN gaming and should be considered a must have utility by each and every player, server administrator and DM of a NWN game. If you don't have it - get it.

For news concerning HakUpdater, please check out http://nwn-j3d.sf.net. There you will find a link to the Hak Pak updater 'Project' page, which contains forum and bug/feature request tracker.

Hak Pak Updater may be downloaded at Click Here

The Hak Pak Updater online help page may be found at Click Here

To run Hak Pak Updater, you will need to download Java Runtime Environment, version 1.4
or later. This is one time download, around 8MB. There is a chance you already have it, as it is used for displaying some java applets on web pages. If not, Java Runtime Environment can be downloaded from http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html.

8 MB is a significant download, but you will get this bandwidth back probably the first time first Hak Pak Updater downloads a single file. Every MB not downloaded after that is gravy

Bug reports or ideas for improvement in functionality or the user interface may be submitted to Revinor at the Hak Pak Updater's project page or by mailing the author at abies@pg.gda.pl.

Major thanks to Revinor - who is, in my opinion, a bona fide Legendary NWN Guru for coding this utility.

Bioware owes him a personal thank you card for this, in my opinion.

It's not Revinor's fault. Sourceforge is in system maintenenace mode. The DL link was active when I posted it, but I expcet it may be undergoing system maintenance as well.

Relax - it will be back up in a bit.

For now - try this one:

(Bad timing on sf.net's part though: Bastages!)

Since we I'm stumbling along with the program, I cannot tell what is a bug, and what is user error.
Here is what I get so far:
Unpack other hakpak, Put contents of hakpak into catch (no mater what file I use) spits out this error:
java.lang. StringIndexOut OfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
at java.lang. String.substring (Unknown Source)
at net.sf.nwn. hak.HakpakRep .listReal Contents(HakpakRep.java:53)
at net.sf.nwn. hak.gui.Main Frame$17.run(MainFrame.java:2146)
