Okay, this never happened before with 1.20, so I'll assume it's a new bug with 1.21.
Whenever I put on the mask of persuasion, it removes all my skills except for Concentration and Persuade (the ones it gives pluses to). I couldn't even disarm the simplest trap cause my "Disarm" of 20 went poof! I logged out and back in, all was well.
I equipped Rogues helm (bonus to some rogue skills, forget which), and swapped out the various damage reduction belts. And again, my skills were gone. I don't recall which ones remained. I didn't take note because I wanted to quickly log out and in before the vault bug occurred. I didn't make it.
Next restart, I'll test the Rogue's helm again. It seems however items that give a bonus to your skills make all other skills go away.
*sigh* I'm really not liking 1.21 at all.

I can confirm that this happens with my character as well. (Mask of Persuasion problem.) This is new to 1.21. Putting it on removes all skills but 2. |

Just checked. Anything that adjusts a skill will cause this bug.
Rogue's gloves. Rings of Lore. Any helm (since they all do Concentration +1). Etc etc.
MAJOR BUG!

It was confirmed here earlier today. I don't know exactly what caused it but I'm sure it will be an easy fix. For my own interests sake, does it actually remove the other skills from you or just not display them in the character sheet?
EDIT: Just got some more info. If you save and then reload after equipping the item in question, it will fix it. Look for a real fix in a future patch.

Dave, thanks for the prompt reply! Speaking for myself, it only appears to remove trained skills which have disappeared. Untrained skills which have disappeared still operate at their true bonus.
Out of curiosity, is this the sort of thing which goes into a "right-away" patch like the creatures-not-using-special-abilities bug, or would it just be included in the next large bug fix a few weeks down the road?
EDIT: Saving and reloading does NOT fix the problem for me! My skills disappear whenever equipping any shield, magical or not, and saving/reloading only fixes the problem until the next time I equip a shield!

Unfortunately, when you change your equipped items, you will need to save/load again.
As for this being a "holy smokes, let's patch this right now", that isn't up to me. Any time a change it made, we have to go through the full QA test cycle to ensure something else wasn't affected.

Oy, that ain't good. That makes it well nigh unplayable for my band of merry adventurers. It was working fine for a while, and then it started affecting a bunch of us in the same party at one time. So if you find the source of the bug, it'd be great if you could let us know so we can try to avoid "activating" the bug if possible. Thanks!

This is definitely a gamebreaker for me. Not much sense in playing a game that has to reloaded constantly. |

Hi Dave
I'm playing a rogue. He doesn't have spells. He doesn't have animal companions. What he does have is a few different helms and belts and boots and cloaks and clothes that he changes out based on where he's heading. I play online. Save and Reload is not an option. Not changing equipped items is not an option.
As for the "Is it only graphical or functional?" question, it's functional. When equipping a regular helm (for instance), I can no longer pick locks or disarm traps. "Greyed out" as it were. If I equip an item that gives a bonus to pick locks or disarm trap, it's no longer "greyed out".
This is really a big bug. And I can't see how it got by. *shrug* I guess these things happen. And I realize ranting and raving won't make this any easier for either of us or go any quicker. However, Patch 1.21 is most definitely not with the happy making.
Thanks for your time and giving us feedback on the matter. I will pass on that BioWare is aware of the bug and has confirmed its existance and will be addressed in a future patch. Any other information you may be able to share with me and the others suffering from this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Usually I am pro bioware but save and reload? You have got to be kidding me? Most characters in chapter 3 or 4 have multiple pieces of equipment for each slot ( Mastery amulet for traps , Health amulet for undead so on ) You mean the 15 or 20 times I switch out equipment I have reload my game? Ok I can just about stomach this but what about online? This is NOT an option with the current " Invalid Character" bug . If everytime I switch equipment I have to log off I will NEVER BE ABLE TO PLAY THIS GAME ONLINE !!! was that loud enough? I am lucky to maybe play 1 or 2 times in a 4 hour period to my favorate server because my characters dont show up on the Server Vault list. When i try to create a new one it says " Invalid Character" which then forces the host to have to reboot to fix the corruption.
This needs a small emergency patch period....no work around

Well, I think this bug's manifestation is proof that the full QA test cycle doesn't work.
(Sorry, couldn't resist.)
I'd love to see interim beta patches in which the relatively easy fixes (such as this one) can be shot out to the customers who dare, with the usual "no official support for beta patches" punchline, so players can play with these fixes while the more elaborate patchwork (such as the SecuROM fiasco) makes the official QA rounds.

Well I hope they don't wait too long to fix this bug. Reloading isn't a big deal in solo play but kinda sucks when hosting a game for MP.
