You arn't the only one that has been wanting this feature...
A couple of other threads about this issue: Click Here Click Here
There are a couple more too, but I couldn't find them. Requests were emailed in to various bioware email addresses no later than November last year, but don't hold your breath. |

Yeah, this "feature" is not likely to be implemented any time soon. I personally do not find it to be a big issue, but then again, I trust my players... Local Vault/non-passworded games are certainly a different story. _________________ "Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist.Children already know that dragons exist.Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed." Actually we're looking at adding this for a future patch.
Don't know which patch it will make it into at this point.

Wooohooo Thanks Craig. I love how responsive Bioware is to their community. I'm amazed that you guys even read the forums anymore considering the number of inconsiderate children that flame the developers around here. |

I love the idea that this might be implimented, and agree that at times some people can get a little flame crazy. However...
This has been an issue for DMs and Admins for some time now and all it would have taken from BioWare was a simple post like this one. "Ok, we are aware of your concerns and are taking steps to address them."
As someone who works in IT, I personally think that nipping valid concerns in the bud always serves my company and the customers best.
Having said that, please understand that I do thank Craig and all the other members of BioWare for taking time to keep on top of the issues that we as their customers present to them. In doing so they ensure that customers like myself will continue to buy their fine producs. _________________ Stick A Fork In Me PWEdited By Anrjo on 03/27/03 16:26 |

Also could Bioware take away the message displayed when a DM uses an item? Many DMs use wands to do certain things, but the players can still see "DM Cole uses special item" _________________ Owner: Red Signet - The Third Age

Yes this is well needed. I do alot of DM stuff behind the scenes and it kinda ruins it when a player points out that the DM is nearby as he/she sees me using items in the status box :\ |

I'm thinking that this is actually some kind of glitch. I've observed (from talking to some of my players) that if I've been visible (so that they're not aware of me) and simply disappear, they will see the "...uses item's special power" message. However, if I've ported into an area while invisible and *remain* invisible, they don't see the message in the status window. I agree that it would be a good idea for Bioware to fix this at some point so that if you're invisible, the message doesn't show up in a status window for any player (any other DM would be fine, of course ).
Along similar lines, I had something funny happen the other night on my server. I was near a couple of players who were chatting with each other, and was invisible. One of them was just casting random web spells around the area (liked looking at the effect, I guess). At one point, she happened to cast one in an area where I was standing. Being DM, of course, the web had no affect on me. She suddenly said to the other player "lol I just hit the DM." I asked her how she knew I was there, and she said that the status box reported that I had resisted the spell. It was amusing, but somewhere done the road when Bioware has fixed some of the more important things that need fixing (like making sure that all player portraits always show up consistantly in the DM clcient), and *definitely* sometime after adding database support, they might want to address this as well.
Just my $.02.

This has been a major bone that I've had to pick with NWN when I first noticed it, and even more after I sought out means to resolve it.
Basicly, you can fix most of those spells so that they do ignore the DM. It's just a matter of some scripting.
However! There is one spell that simply can't be fixed due to the fact that it's effect is hard coded and it's Sanctuary.
If your intrested in how to fix your spells so that they will ignore the DM (All but Sanctuary of course. ) Shoot me a message. _________________ Stick A Fork In Me PW |
