I'm using Mandrake Linux 9.1 and have installed the nVidia drivers without problems. Now I tried to play NeverWinter Nights and I have followed the instructions here on bioware.com about playing NeverWinter under Linux, however this is the error message I get:

Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

WHAT IS WRONG?!

Can you verify that AGP acceleration is running? You can find out by using the following command: cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status. Post your output from that command if you have any questions about what it means. I don't run Mandrake so I can't really guess about any other sources of your problem. Do you run other SDL applications without any trouble?

I run Slackware Linux with working GeForce2 GTS XF86 drivers and I also get this error when I attempt to run NWN as a user other than root. If I run the game as root I am fine.

So the problem is probably just that NWN isn't getting permission to use something it needs. Finding out what is another matter altogether.

Have you checked ownership and permissions on all the files in the nwn directory? If so, and you are sure that your non-priveleged account has proper access to those, how are you running X? I've had problems with ownership and permissions for /dev/nvidiactl when switching from runlevel 5 to runlevel 3 which led to SDL segfaults. But this is why I asked the original poster if other SDL applications were able to run okay - to try to understand the scope of the issue.

The bottom line is that there can be several causes to SDL segfaults when running the NWN Linux client, so the best way to troubleshoot is not always obvious. Generally, it will boil down to permissions, AGP, driver versions or library issues. Pick one and start finding out if things are okay with it, then go to the next, repeat until fixed or all known issues exhausted.

Are you using the Ravage installer? The latest version of the installer misses almost 400MB of information that causes this error.

If you used the Ravage installer and have a Windows partition or system available, I highly suggest that you try the regular install procedure and see if that fixes it.

If you don't have a windows system available, I'd try installing the latest version of SDL and hope for the best. A lot of people have been having these types of problems since the release of beta 5.

Seems to be the ravage installer that forgot the teextures or that does not report a bug during the installation.

so you will probably need to install on a winBLOWs client andtransfert the files.

i have the same problem on my computer and mandrake 9.1 and i have no textures install even if a choose to install all of them.

so i think the best idea would be that someone share through bittorrent the folder of is windows installation. So every one will have the right files or to find the bug in ravage installer.
