Master of the elven warbands, the arcane archer is a warrior skilled in using magic to supplement their combat prowess. One of five new Prestige Classes added in Shadows of Undrentide, arcane archers have a repertoire of magical arrow attacks, including the Arrow of Death. Additionally, 2 new Shadows of Undrentide screenshots have been posted!

Oh boy! Can't wait! I am a little sad that only the fireball arrow is the only imbued option. Ah heck, it'll be a great way to start out a combat round! Wooo hoooo... *twang*...... BOOOOOOOM!
Ha hah hah hahahhaaha
How many of you are going to opt for the AA as your first Prestige Character? |

Am I correct in assuming that Bards qualify for the arcane archer class? |

Why would fighters become Arcane Archers to gain some magic ability when you have to be able to cast first level spells in order to qualify for the Arcane Archer class? You would basically need to take on a level of Wizard or Sorcerer in the first place. Hmmmm... |

Bioware used the Class Description from the D&D 3rd edition DM's guide. I guess it just assumes that any fighter who wants to be an AA would first pick up some levels in arcane spellcasting |

I was excited about this class, but not if it doesn't come with gaining spell levels as well. I've already got an Arcane Archer, she just isn't Prestige Class. Still -the new portrait looks GREAT. The BlackGuard portrait is the BEST -I may have to break down and play and evil character- or a Drow Paladin anyways. |

seems to me the prestige classes are gonna be a huge disadvantage. A level twenty character has like plus ten more to hit and save than a character who is 10/10. I ran into this problem in single player. Seems to me that a mage at level 20 would easliy kill a maxed out arcane archer combined with any other class. Does the prestige class work different in those aspects? Im not very familiar with 3rd edition rules. ( i started on the very first boxed set then went to second editon pnp.) Nwn is my only experience with 3rd edtion except for a frustrating afternoon with pools of radiant crap. = looking forward to making a dirty fighting halfling with a level or two of shadow dancer tho : ) |

I'd say it really depends on which classes you combine. Some classes lend themselves very well for mc'ing because their abilities complement each other very well (ex. fighter/wizard, ranger/rogue, rogue/shadowdancer). But it's always a big choice to make, because once you add those levels of fighter, you'll never be as good a wizard as a pure lvl 20 wizard, BUT, you will be better in close combat then a lvl 20 wizard. It's the sacrifise you make.
Oh, and by the way - a (well prepared) level 20 wizard will be able to 'easily kill' pretty much everything that crosses his path, so that's not really a very good example you give there. Would be more interesting to see what happens with a lvl 20 rogue or lvl 20 ranger vs a maxed out arcane archer combined with any other class.

Some of us will take prestige classes as part of role playing not to make us "stronger". _________________ Shoot the messenger!!
