As you journey through Shadows of Undrentide, you will encounter many new and interesting characters - several of them are now profiled here on the NPC Profiles page. The original GameSpy article also contains interviews with Dave Gaider, senior designer!

Ummm...

C'mon, folks, who didn't already know all this?

Why don't you tell us what their stats are, something about any quests they might be involved in (maybe there AREN'T any "henchman quests" anymore, but it would be nice to KNOW...), something USEFUL?

I don't expect a complete explanation of the Dragon --but then again, he isn't gonna be my FAMILIAR, is he?

I would like to be warned that the idiot half-orc Sorcerer MIGHT take levels in Barbarian, if I am not careful. I would like to know what the Dwarven Cleric / Thief took as her domain powers (I a assuming that one is "Trickery", and hoping the other was "Heal"...).

You know, silly USEFUL stuff like that. I couldn't care less if Xanos is the "lost Heir to the Kingdom of Bratalniac-mulph", or whatever story he tells me --unless it directly affects me, in a "henchman quest"... I don't care if Drogan is a closet Harper (read --Intelligence score of 3, for giving up spells for a silly "favored enemy" bonus, if he truly is dumb enough to go into melee...), or if he used to vacation in Miami.

If you promise a "profile", give a profile. Otherwise, call a "background" a "background", and STOP TEASING US!!!

I couldn't care less what the henchmen did before they got here, I just wanna know what they are gonna be able to do if I choose them.

Full points for story, folks.

But who cares if Xanos is arrogant?

Just as long as he does what I tell him to...

As an "aside", do I get to choose which spells my bucket-of-bolts-stupid henchmen might select? I would consider THAT a part of a "profile", rather than a "background"...

Yes, I WILL buy the expansion pack. Yes, I will play it. Yes, I will screw around with the mechanics added, to make my modules cooler.

I would just like a little bit of honesty, people. If you don't have anything to say other than what folks have already said, then just print out a "Neverwinter Nights Expansion Pack -- Nothing New At All" message.

Another "aside" --why don't you devote some attention to telling us what the CAPS are, for bonuses granted by your new feats? That might clear up some of the "I've got a bug" issues...

But, never mind. Why don't you tell me something about which color slippers Xanos really prefers? I bet THAT info might really come in handy, when the bodies are flyin' and the babies are cryin'...

Holy Jesus Christ on Toast...I don't even know where to start on you, man. Maybe they should just strip the game down to bare code so you don't have to deal with any of those annoying pictures, or reduce the conversations to simple data nodes with XP value noted next to them. How can anybody possibly enjoy an RPG without enjoying going through the story or characters for their own sake? Maybe you'd be happier doing Calculus equations, instead of playing a richly detailed and immersive game.

If every RP queen in here had it his way, we would all play gnomish fighters with negative strength because it's sooo realistic and non-powergaming.

Point taken.

I over-stated my case, and I apologize.

Still, I have to wonder if I am the only person who sees a difference between a "profile" and a "history".

I should have given more praise to the detail given to each character -- believe me, I DID enjoy the initial scene where I was introduced to my "classmates". There was a bit more strutting from Xanos than I thought was necessary, but I took it in stride with the "D.M. Intent", the same way I would have in a Pen and Paper game.

However, I didn't consider that a "profile" then, and I don't consider it one now. Maybe if Xanos had said, "You know, I have a family history of derangement, and sometimes I wanna strip buck-nekked, dye my skin blue, and attack anything that moves with a Greataxe", then I would have expected him to go for a few levels in Barbarian.

I don't fault anybody for the richness of the characters, as presented in the game.

I resent that we have a "profile" published, that is only a "character background".

Their profile would be useful. I will learn their background, if I choose them as a henchman. I don't need it printed here to learn it.

I need to know what they will do, within the mechanics of the game.

Consider: I am playing a Paladin, and suddenly my henchman spontaneously decides to become a Blackguard. Oh, THAT would be a nice bit of role-playing, there, wouldn't it?

That's why I'd like to have a "profile", not JUST another shot at "background". I know that Xanos is arrogant. That DOESN'T mean that he is EVIL, he just has a swollen head -- or, that is a little warning from the folks who put the game together that he IS evil. It would be nice to KNOW.

I need to know his alignment (since the game doesn't let ANYONE -- not even Paladins or Harper Scouts -- "detect evil"), I would like to know whether he is capable of combat (since all I get is some artistic picture of his face, and he could be worthwhile or worthless, and have the same face), and I would like to know what he can DO.

He doesn't tell me that in dialogue, so I will either have to depend on dying, or depend on getting his "profile" -- NOT his "history" -- on a web-site such as this.

Again, my apologies for being overly-aggressive; however, I do stand by my convictions.

And, I think that IF their ARE any CAPS to ability modifiers due to Feats, they should be published as soon as they become available, so that people are able to plan their Feat purchases accordingly.

Just my two coppers' worth (again).

I really am NOT trying to "flame" anyone...

Yah, well...I can appreciate your point on that level. I suppose the only real way to find out is to play with them..and if they start going in a direction that doesn't work with your character, then it's time to dismiss them and move on.

Which would leave you with a lower level Hench-person if it happened much later in the game, I guess...but still...
