Tried it, Seg fault even with no mod loaded.
edit: I was able to fix this by overwriting the execuatable from the update (25meg file) with the one from the standalone (1.4meg file). If anyone else had the same problem I did that should work for you too. _________________ You can find me playing DSO: http://www.darksunonline.org/Edited By Trump on 08/19/03 19:09 |

can you post a little more detail, please?
does your issue and fix pertain to the client or the server or both? what files were involved? I wanna update, but seeing this post made me decide to wait on some more info. |

From this, I gather that you are referring to the dedicated server update. I downloaded the 130 to 131 patch and new install binaries from the web site and the nwserver is identical between them. Perhaps there was a problem with your first download. |

I would seriously like to know more about the bug described above. I'm NOT very linux savie (DOn't shoot me!!), but it looks like we're running into something simular here. Ah... Click Here for the gory details. Any help/suggestions that some of you lords of the Penguins have would be seirously appreiciated!!
Thanks in advance!! (man, I hate it when people say that...) _________________ Fer some good 'ol PW fun, look below: (then go have some fun, willya?) Thain Thain's Host Site and Forums Direct Connect to: 70.68.167.40 |

well, the patch seems to have worked fine here. remove the override directory, save my customised 'nwn' startup script, untar the tarball, run fixinstall (just in case), and restore my customised script.
game plays, claims to be version 1.31, which is good enough for me.

I just did exactly that, and I get:
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)
every time I try to start it, (the client that is).
Any ideas? |

I'm not quite sure why when I "updated" from 1.30 to 1.31 it isn't registering the update. Did everything you guys said to do... yet still thinks it's 1.30. Had the same prob with the original nwn updating process. Any Ideas? Ways to edit the ver number so that I can play online again?
Thanks.
P.S. thyrihad, try checking out to see if your SDL libraries got corrupted... *tv medicine ad voice* You can learn more about SDL Libraries by running a search for your error through the Linux forums. Common side effects include...
P.P.S. Ignore my first comments about it not updating... stupid Ark doesn't actually extract the files. It's late. I'm tired. It was pennsic... well, not really. _________________ Slebine Veni, Bibi, Pecci!Edited By Slebine on 08/21/03 05:08 |

I'm not even using the provided SDL libraries, my system ones are far more up to date. I tried using them however, adding ./lib back into the LD_LIBRARY_PATH, but I get the same error. |

ashridah Worried that things wouldn't work after doing the patch, I made a complete backup of the nwn directory before untarring the update. It turns out that the nwn startup script is not overwritten (not part of the tarball), so anyone going through this update need not worry about saving that file.
In my case, too, there was no need to follow step 4 of the linux 1.31 SoU update instructions (dialog.tlk) - I checked the md5sum of the file after untarring against the file provided for download and it matched. YMMV, especially if you're using a non-English version!
For what it's worth, 1.31 is running just fine for my uses - playing through OC right now in a LAN game, all 3 machines (one Windows 98, other 2 Linux) updated without a hitch. Looking forward to playing the new campaign after our party gets through! _________________ Let the truth of love be lighted, let the love of truth shine clear / Sensibility - armed with sense and liberty / With the heart and mind united in a single, perfect sphere

Interesting to note that SDL is no longer mentioned on the title splash screen. Was this something overlooked from the removal of all files from the override directory? _________________ -kccricket * chirp * chirp * |

Oversight, that will get back into override for the next update. |

Hi,
I'm having the same problem described in another post. After updating to 1.31, I get "Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)", either when I'm using the provided libSDL, or when I'm using standard SDL (SDL-1.2.5-1.i386.rpm, downloaded from SDL site).
I'm using Redhat 9 on an AMD, radeon 7000, kernel 2.4.21, XFree 4.3, wheelmouse.
Thx, bye |

Hi again,
After a sleepless night spent trying and trying, I got 1.31 working. For thyrihad and any other that may have had the same problem, it works on a 'clean' installation; mine starting with windows install, beta 2 and so on, must have got corrupted in some way, though I don't know where and how.
Anyway, I just did this: - backup - clean the directory - untar nwresources129.tar.gz - update with linuxclientupdate29to130.tar.gz and linuxclientupdate29to131.tar.gz - get /miles and ./nwn from one of the betas - restore
and it worked fine. Hope my suggestions might be useful for anyone.
