Using the well-crafted community name 'Rick Burton', Rick Burton became well-known to fans as the author of several impressive Neverwinter Nights modules, including his 'Paladin' series, which is planned as a trilogy. His work garnered the attention of the BioWare design department, which concluded that he was the stuff that professionals were made of. Rick took some time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions on being the latest community talent to start working as a professional game developer.

We were restraining huge, lettuce-fed slobbery dogs on chains back while he answered that question so he felt some peer pressure I'm sure |

Meh. Sounds like the hazing has hardly begun. Wait until the QA department starts their rookie routine with him. *shivers in terror*

Ah, that's the kind of story I like to read. Some good old fashion 'this is how I made it into the business' type o' tale. Good way to show both the importance of community feedback and how focus can get you places you want to go. It's not that hard-hitting or revealing anything too mind-blowing but I like reading interviews with the behind-the-scenes folk. More! _________________ Well there ain't no point in moving on until you've got somewhere to go... |

(Un)really interesting reply... Though it seems like he was well prepared for the transition, I can't help thinking that it would be unreal going from a hobby to being a cog in the great Bioware machine (or engine if you will) _________________ Dasaria Way of the Open Palm all the err... way! |

Well, this is an interview about somebody getting a job in a company, which is published by the company in a webpage of the company. But the company does no allow it's new employee to talk about his new job, his tasks, responsabilities and contribution (i.e. has he been hired as a programmer, developer, advisor, janitor...?) Well, I donīt understand the sense in that 'interview' (could perhaps Bioware have undercover military projects in collaboration with some evil government and R.B. had been assigned to one of them?). About the rest, yes, working in videogames is cool, the weather is cold in Canada, but... something anew and really interesting?
Very odd, or at lesat I find it so. |

I'd say he is working in the design department.
For the project I'd say he is either not permanently assigned or working on one of the "evil" "super secret" projects bio has going on. Like the "New Project" and the one using the Unreal 3 engine. Edited By dwarfendude on 04/28/05 10:15 |

The weather isnt cold here! Above freezing is awesome, just the other day it was 5 degrees and I was out in shorts, wasnt terrible. I actually am really 'cold blooded' in two senses, im kinda emotionless and in the one that matters I produce VERY little body heat, I think its mainly cuz I'm skinny (not enough fat/muscle to produce heat) and also I was in hot weather for a good 3 years (20 degrees was cold to us for a good portion of that) so that being said, I am less used to the cold than most canadians and its still not cold...so NO! canada isnt really as cold as people make it out to be.
Anyways, I'd also like to say that its really cool that Rick got hired from the stuff he did in the community without working on other development teams or whatever.
I think I left the door to my igloo open, better go close it before my polar bear walks away from me...he really likes the outdoors _________________ Time is like a monkey, you think its there and then its gone eating a banana! |

He is a master story developer. If Bioware gives Rick the tools I'm sure were going to see his amalgamation of Movie and RPGs in new Bioware titles. Its time to buy stock. |

The poster you are quoting is from Edmonton, Canada. As he si not in the USA, the "degrees" he is referring to are celsius, not fahrenheit.
If 25C (mid 70's in F) is "cold" for you, you are not human.

Perhaps you should read the interview a little more carefully?
Quote: Posted by Rick Burton Secondly, I want to thank Steel Wind and DLA. I learned quite a bit by working with them and wouldn't even know where to begin to explain how much they helped me get my opportunity with BioWare.
As Rick mentioned, he joined DLA and worked on our material we created for BioWare's DD program. You have not seen that material yet - but that does not mean that BioWare has not seen it - they certainly have! _________________ .Robert (Steel_Wind) DLA/roXidy Games Inc. |
