Something was changed in the NWN Diamond install package after we created it and before it went to manufacturing. One or more key files were altered.
All of you have my deepest apologies if this issue has affected you in any way.
PLEASE run the NWNEnglish1.66HotUUpdate.exe program on the DVD. This will replace the defective nwmain.exe file with the proper one.
If you do not do this, you will not be able to automatically update the game to the future 1.67 update, nor will you be able to roll back to a previous version. Some are already reporting instances of not being able to start the game.
Please let me know of your results in this thread.
Again, my deepest apologies. _________________ ...buckle your seatbelt, Dorothy, 'cause Kansas is going bye-bye.Edited By Derek French on 11/05/05 17:51 |

This fix worked for me. Win2k SP4.
The update program did NOT try to install this fix; it's only on the DVD (so far). |

The update program did NOT try to install this fix; it's only on the DVD (so far). The updater would never try to do this, because the game version is the same as the proper nwmain.exe. This is something that must be done manually.
At least the fix was included on the DVD _________________ ...buckle your seatbelt, Dorothy, 'cause Kansas is going bye-bye. |

Ah ok here you all are *smiles* I must say that I am not surprized at peoples reactions to what I did, but they have never met me and first impressions, while lasting, are NEVER the truest. *shrugs*
Anyway, I will say that I never said in my post that I broke the disk over the securerom or disk search stuffie, I got fed up when even using the game in the manner it was intended and the game screwed up...so BOOM its gone! *grins*
Also I NEVER blamed Bioware and made that very clear yet a certain person accused me of blaming Bioware *shrugs*
Whatever, I bought Platinum and I am a happy little creature *grins showing broken teeth from biting DVD disks*
I am done with this subject and feeling GREAT...see ya in game *waves goodbye*
P.S. Also Platium has a physical manual so that in itself makes this worth it.
P.P.S. Just another note, I am very glad that people like you Mr. French care about us players and do help...for that I am very greatful. Though I did overeact with this situation, I clearly can see that you care and are doing what you can to help this situation...thanks again *smiles*Edited By BrokenReality on 11/06/05 07:55 |

Good job on this one, Mr. French. I hope your socks are still on, and that your underwear is clean!
That must have been a wild ride. |

I understand the idea of running the quick fix that is on the disk, but I cant open the disk. My computer doesn't see that the disk is in the drive. I have tried right clicking the drive and selected the open there(nogo), using the start/ run command d:\setup (nogo) and I am not too sure what else to try. Please help. |

What you are describing is a problem outside of the issue we are talking about. I would suggest that you either try the DVD on a different computer or try exchanging the game where you purchased it from (maybe even get them to test it for you first). Anyways, this is off topic for this thread. _________________ ...buckle your seatbelt, Dorothy, 'cause Kansas is going bye-bye. |

Hello!
I finally bought my Diamond edition, YAY ME!!
Having said this, the unable to start thing was rather frustrating. I mean I assumed there would be an easy fix (and there was, thanks for the tip) but I'm concerned with how many people will probably take a rather long time to find the forums, nevermind the information.
Therefore, I would most humbly suggest you folks release a 1.66.1 or 1.67 patch that does absolutely nothing other than copy the correct version into the install. You can then later release whatever you had planned for 1.67 as 1/68
Anyway, just my 2 coppers. Thanks for this great edition.

Well today i orderd my copy of the diamond edition for the simple reason i am not able to play online. Now iom not going to make lame excuses like "my dog ate my serial" i simply had a not original copy of HotU. I do have the other two original as you can see i have registerd.
So at first i apologize for using a copy to bioware but believe me i tried buying HotU in stores but i never found a copy. I finaly decided to put away all my principals and buy it online.
My main questions are: 1. if i use the update on the disk i won't get the problem of not recognizing the disk? 2. Can i use my old savegames if i back them up? 3. Can i install it over my old copy or do i have to remove it and reinstall it from scrap. (i think it will be last but it would save me a lot of time replacing all the custom content i have) 4. Do i need to replace my serials here on the site (i think you get only 1 serial with diamond) or can i just add the new one registering HotU and im set for the forum.
THANK YOU! And again i apologize to bioware/atari but no wories i orderd the diamond and therefore fully support you. This game IS worth the 45 euros i have to pay!! _________________

Mr. French,
Thank you for all of your help and information so far, as well as the willingness to obtain a retail version of the game so you can see what us consumers are talking about.
For clarity's sake, are you saying the 1.66HotU update WILL DEFINITELY remove SecuROM V7 from the nwmain.exe that comes with the Diamond edition? Furthermore, once updated with the patch, the game will not even ask for an original DVD on startup, nor will it even try to detect emulation software and give you a message "emulator found"? I'd like very much to get rid of the hokey work-around that is listed below, but since after many hours I have the game finally working, I am loathe to install a 'fix' that might make things worse.
Thank you very much for your time and patience,
Eric Sundman
Here is why I make copies of games:
Because my kids scratch every game disc in the house, I had to find a work-around at the site below, but it is very tedious and requires a little bit of computer skill, as well as a trial version of Alcohol 52%.
These guys know a little something about getting around copy protection: Click Here |

hi,i'am new & i've NEVER played NwN YET. I love the colours used for this site,it's fairly similar to the way i have my OS look.
Anyhow, just wanted to thank Daryl Knight for the initial resque & Derek French for the verification:)
I tried to run the game today but got this black tab popup stating it couldn't find sum module or code or sumtin. To make a long story short,i checked a bunch of copy this/crack that sites with NO luck.
Lastly i decided to enter "Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition PROTECTION" in google & ended up RIGHT HERE where i belong:D YES,there is NO thing called coincidence, this was fate/destiny or whatever tickles ur fancy. I'am glad the entire ordeal didn't take me more then 1 hr.
Thx again for the "1.66HotUUpdate.exe on DVD" solution.
Lastly,to the guy who busted the cool DVD,Don't struggle against the river, flow with it & u'll get there sooner:DEdited By ougabooga on 11/13/05 22:54 |

My main questions are: 1. if i use the update on the disk i won't get the problem of not recognizing the disk? Correct, because the proper version of NWN 1.66 has no disk checking in it, whatsoever. The Diamond nwmain.exe was altered after we finished the installer.
Quote: 2. Can i use my old savegames if i back them up? No NWN patch broke save games, however bug fixes in NWN updates will not magically fix broken save games.
Quote: 3. Can i install it over my old copy or do i have to remove it and reinstall it from scrap. (i think it will be last but it would save me a lot of time replacing all the custom content i have) You can install overtop. It will not try and remove anything.
Quote: 4. Do i need to replace my serials here on the site (i think you get only 1 serial with diamond) or can i just add the new one registering HotU and im set for the forum. That is up to you. It is not required. _________________ ...buckle your seatbelt, Dorothy, 'cause Kansas is going bye-bye. |

It will replace the defective nwmain.exe that is installed with NWN Diamond with the proper 1.66 nwmain.exe
I still do not know what kind of molestation was done to the nwmain.exe, other than the file is larger than it should be and is dated one day after we finalized the installer.
Quote: Furthermore, once updated with the patch, the game will not even ask for an original DVD on startup, Correct, because there is no disk check or any other schenanigans in 1.66. _________________ ...buckle your seatbelt, Dorothy, 'cause Kansas is going bye-bye. |
