Well if Owen is sick, I'm not surprised that we didn't get any fast feedback about it. Anyway, now that we know you're looking into it, guess we can all chill, host our single player modules on nwserver and connect to our own host... let us know when you've stomped that bug and it's ready to download again, we'll be waiting patiently. _________________ - Eyrdan -

Foolishly enough I hoped to be able to report here that I didn't have this problem. I just upgraded and I found that I too, have it ... Luckily I read this topic though, and made a backup of my previous installation first. _________________ ...ehm...yeah...definately... |

Found the problem, fixed the problem, making new files now (there will be a small fix for those who have already downloaded the full files).
Also, just a note, if you are running english, there should never be a dialogf.tlk (f for female) in your install dir.. In the xp1 and xp2 patch streams for linux, some french dialogf managed to find it's way in (bad script!). This is fixed in the new files, but if you have it kicking around... well, either enjoy playing a female character in french, or simply delete the file (cd to install dir, "rm -f dialogf.tlk")
Sorry for the problems... between being sick and loosing some scripts to make the linux builds, things are a bit crazy.
Owen. |

Hi all,
If you've downloaded any of the patches for linux 1.67 and you have a problem with SOU (or any NPC's not spawning), there was an error in the build of the final patches that resulted in a .o file being wrong, which caused problems. This has been fixed, and the patches have been updated. For those who have already downloaded the 1.67 patch, there is a "small" update available to fix the affected files at http://files.bioware.com/neverwinternights/updates/linux/167/linuxclient167fix.tar.gz
If you have the English XP1 or XP2 patch, you should also remove the dialogf.tlk file as it does not belong there either.
Sorry for the confusion.
Owen.

Good thing this worked out. Personally I missed the messy part, it had already been solved when I got around to get the patch.
Still, is there any chance that some rudimentary testing will be done on future Linux patches before they are released? _________________ In those days, spirits were brave, the stakes were high, men were real men, women were real women and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri. |

I'm using the german client. I got SDL-Parachute errors after updating to 1.67 (1.66 running fine) and so I straced the client. The problem seems to be, that the 1.67-Client tries to open a bif, that is not part of the resources. Strace says, it tries to open data/xp2_sounds.bif and then exits which results in parachute error.
Touching a empty data/xp2_sounds.bif doesn't help, if I copy any of the data/*sound*.bif-Files to data/xp2_sounds.bif the game starts normal (with some odd sounds at mouseclick ).
I didn't find any xp2_sounds.bif in the resources or the old patches, seems to me, that it is new with 1.67 German (? or international versions at all ?) Or have I to rename only one of the other bif's (which one?)
Regards, rwm
(PS: patched Win-Version to 1.67 but no xp2_sounds.bif there)Edited By rwm_ on 04/29/06 10:46 |

Do you have HOU installed? xp2sounds.bif is part of HOU, and is on the CD.
If you don't have it installed, check your *patch.bif/*patch.key files match the particular expansion you have installed.
<patch.key & data/patch.bif == OC xp1patch.key & data/xp1patch.bif == SOU xp2patch.key & data/xp2patch.bif == HOU>
(My pardon's if I've munged the filenames slightly, in Windows at the moment, editing video.)

Sure, as soon as we download the beta patches and test them.
Beta4 was broke, unfortunately, the one lone soul who tested it tested it right before the final version came out. (Yeah, its been dead here. :-> )

I doubt this very much. I have a german version of NWN with SoU and HotU, and neither in my windows nor in my linux install (built up from downloaded resource files) I have a xp2_sounds.bif. But I don't get any parachute deployed errors with patch 1.67.
@rwm_: Perhaps, if David is right and the english version of nwn has and uses a xp2_sounds.bif, you by accident applied the wrong patch (i.e., not the german version)?

xp2_sounds.bif has always been there, it's in the Language_data.zip file on the HotU CD, it's not a 1.67 issue. Maybe in attempting to update you removed the previous patch file (xp2patch.bif) and accidentally removed the sounds too? Anyway, just get it from the CDs again, that file contains all of the voices of the NPCs.
Edit: reading Skildron's remarks too I think he might be on to something... if the German version does not have german NPC voices it might not have the xp2_sounds.bif file, so if you install the wrong patch, you might end up changing the .key files and end up with one that needs xp2_sounds.bif. However, this file is indexed in xp2.key, not xp2patch.key (unless they made an error in the patch), and xp2.key is not included in the patch, is it? _________________ - Eyrdan -
