Patch 1.67 is the latest patch for NWN, released on Wed, April 26, 2006.
1. Patch Info
Since there are likely some people new to our patching process, I'm reposting this general Q&A, updated to 1.67.
What's new A lot. We have set up a dedicated webpage highlighting some of the new features.
Where are the full patchnotes? here..
I seem to have trouble downloading... The download servers are currently hit pretty hard. Please exercise some patience or try an alternate download source (website).
The patcher aborts and says it is unable to update the game? Files in your game installation have been altered, preventing the standard patch from working. Please get the current critical rebuild for your game version here.
The patcher aborts because of a problem with chapter2.nwm ? Files in your game installation have been altered, preventing the standard patch from working. Please get the current critical rebuild for your game version here.
2. Getting the patch
Anythings I need to do before patching? It is always a good idea to make a full backup of your modules, characters vaults and hakpaks before a patch. Also, make sure that game, server and toolset are not running while patching!.
Where do I get patch 1.67? The patch is available through the Auto patcher. You can also grab it directly from our webpage here.
How do I get the two new tilesets? Download instructions here.
I seem to have trouble downloading... The download servers are currently hit pretty hard. Please exercise some patience or try an alternate download source (website).
3. Multiplayer
If I patch to 1.67, can I still play on my favorite server? That depends. The rule of thumb is that you need the same version number as the server to play on it. If your server has updated to patch 1.67, you will need patch 1.67 to play on it. If your server is still on 1.66, you need patch 1.66 to play on it.
4. Concerns
Will my savegames still work with patch 1.67? Yes, our patches do not break savegame compatibility.
Why are the new tilesets distributed via seperate hakpak and not bundled with the patch? This has several reasons, including patch size and resource management concerns.
Another issue had to with what would have been required to make them "standard tilesets" as you called them. It would have been a lot of work with a lot of potential issues regarding data syncronicity with the expansions and a few other things. Comparing all that work to the known-good of the Hak Pak system allowed us to put our efforts into other things.
How do I use the new tilesets in my module? After running the hakpak installer or manuall copying the files into the nwn\hak directory, you need to associate the 6 new hackpaks:
potsc_lscrns_2da.hak potsc_lscrns.hak aurora_tdtinfo.hak aurora_ttzinfo.hak aurora_tdt.hak aurora_ttz.hak
with your module in the module properties.
So how do I associate the tileset hakpaks with my module, step by step? 1. Copy the .hak files into the \hak subdirectory of your NWN installation. 2. Open your module in the toolset 3. Go Menu->Edit->Module Properties->Custom Content 4. select each of the haks in the dropdown and press 'Add' 5. Order as seen above.
In which order should I attach those hakpaks It shouldn't matter, but the order I listed them in the previous question is recommend.
My Linux game (1.67) is behaving strangely, there are no monsters at all...? Our resident penguin, Owen, has fixed this problem. Please Click Here
Will patch 1.67 work with CEP / PRC? You will need to get patch 1.67 compatible versions of CEP or PRC. The patch has been in beta for several weeks now, so those teams will probably be able to release their updates soon.
Has <favorite bug> been fixed? Check the patchnotes and test it in game. If it's still there, it wasn't fixed and you can resubmit it if you still care to nwbugs@bioware.com.
What exploits have been fixed? BioWare does not comment on any security related changes made in patches. If you find an exploit that works with patch 1.67, please submit it to nwexploits@bioware.com.
I can no longer log into multiplayer... It may be possible that your firewall may be blocking NWN from accessing the master server, as the executable changed in the update and some software (e.g. zonealarm I believe) will block the executable from outside access when the executable has changed.
My fav. server has not updated yet and I want to play on it. Is there any way to reverse the patch You can find the revert patch here. Make sure to read the instructions carefully!
5. Undocumented Changes Given the volume of changes the patch has, chances are that some things slipped through the cracks and never made it into the patchnotes.
Here is a list of things that are missing from the patchnotes:
- The spellscript for Edvards Black Tentacles was changed to reflect the rules more closely.
6. Misc
What do the premium modules have to do with this patch? A lot. Without the revenue generated by the premium modules, we would have stopped patch support for NWN a while ago. Due to the success of the premium modules, we are able to still release patches (larger than ever) for a four year old game like NWN.
Also, most of the new art introduced in this patch was originally created for our 10 hour Pirates of the Sword Coast premium module and is now released to the NWN community free of cost.
Where can I download the current 2da files for 1.67? Full 2da source: Click Here
Diff: Click Here (external webpage, BioWare can not guarantee ... bla bla).
Q. What happened to the pure black and white palette colors?
Quote: Brian Chung: A. The palette was extended and a number of colors added and the previously 'hidden' palette line was also revealed. It was decided that the pure white and pure black colors for hair and skin looked horrible on people and was replaced with ones that would show shadows and highlights. If you want to revert for, say, creating your shadow creatures, you will have to modify: pal_skin01.tga pal_hair01.tga And replace the whole row at 62 and 63 to remove the gradients. Someone already provided an option : Click Here Note: This thread is moderated, any posts seen as offtopic will be pruned without warning. If you have questions about the patch, feel free to ask them here, we will try to answer them. _________________ georg zoeller senior rules and systems monkey [da | me] My custom NWN content

I cannot see many of the multi-player servers. Some show up, but not all. Is this an effect of installing 1.67, and if so, where can I find directions to uninstall it until my favorite servers upgrade?
You will only see servers that have updated to 1.67. It usually takes a few days for most servers to update.
You can find the revert patch here: Click Here _________________ georg zoeller senior rules and systems monkey [da | me] My custom NWN content

Ok I've Downloaded the update. Nothing is different. So Now I've read that they were issued as a hack pak. I've never dealt with a hack pak. So where do I find the files, and how or what do I do with them?

Well I can download the patch to my freshly installed (reformatted HD) NWN Diamond Edition, but after the download it fails (in red letters no less) when trying to patch "nwm\Chapter2E.nwm". It claims that "an incorrect version of the file was found on your system", and tells me to "Get the critical rebuild. At Click Here and promptly aborts the patch. I have the complete log.
Zoom ahead and after downloading and running "NWNEnglish1.67OrigUpdate.exe", I get this error message "You cannot use this patch with your current install of Neverwinter Nights". That's all, no other explanation. I can't understand how a legal game, that's just been installed and hasn't even been played yet could contain a corrupt file. Windows XP SP2 with Media Center is working fine. The Direct X version is 9.0c. My game is v. 1.66.8074.
If anyone in Bioware can enlighten me, I would truly like to see this new upgrade. It would be the first one I would miss, since I have owned all of the original discs plus the Diamond for convenience. _________________ "The Larger Print Giveth And The Small Print Taketh Away"...Tom Waits |

How do I use the new tilesets in my module? After running the hakpak installer or manuall copying the files into the nwn\\hak directory, you need to associate the 6 new hackpaks:
potsc_lscrns_2da.hak potsc_lscrns.hak aurora_tdtinfo.hak aurora_ttzinfo.hak aurora_tdt.hak aurora_tdt.hak
with your module in the module properties. Just to avoid a little bit of confusion and uncertainties: - potsc_lscrns_2da.hak
- potsc_lscrns.hak
- aurora_tdtinfo.hak
- aurora_ttzinfo.hak
- aurora_tdt.hak
- aurora_ttz.hak
And the files should be added in the above order from top to buttom.

Ok, got patch works fine but my server doesn't recognize it. Understand that they might not have updated. Grabbed the revert as you suggested in first post. Downloaded and inserted in the proper place, have the deffault location. Attempted the update as instructed and nothing happened. Opened the zip file and read the notepad file. Interesingly it says it is a 1.66 to 1.65 revert but it is the revert download listed for 1.67 to 1.66 listed by you on first post. Please!!!! Help!!! having server withdrawls. I am sure they will update but can't wait that long. Thanks ahead of time. |

Ok look I've found the files in the hak file. But now what what do I do with them now. Do I drag them some where? Where or how do I incorporate them into nwn for use. 1. Copy the .hak files into the \hak subdirectory of your NWN installation.
2. Open your module in the toolset
3. Go Menu->Edit->Module Properties->Custom Content
4. select each of the haks in the dropdown and press 'Add'
5. Order as seen above. _________________ georg zoeller senior rules and systems monkey [da | me] My custom NWN content

When I first updated to 1.67 I wasn't able to bring up the new beasts or placeables, there was a portrait for them but no beast. After unstalling then reinstalling, I'm able to see the placeables but still no beasts. I've added the new haks in. Am I missing a file? |

So what are the changes in 1.67 that are not noted on the patchnotes? E.g. the changes to Evards and other spells
I've actually exceeded two gigabytes of hak packs? I'm sure a lot of them are redundant, but these haks are getting out of control. _________________ --

Thats actually the first time bioware introduced haks you can use. The other 1.8 or so gigs are likely from modules you have played in the past. _________________ Inactive for a while |

To install the 1.67->1.66 patch you have to
- download the patch - copy the patch (the ZIP file and not its content) to your NWN folder - update NWN (use the update button or start nwupdate.exe) _________________ Character Build Calculator(works with Excel, Open Office) 2.83: updated to NWN 1.69. |
