In the tomb in Chapter 2, I can't kill Brother Toras.
I am a Level 7 Dwarven Fighter and I alternate between a bow, Longsword +1 with a shield and a halberd +1.
I have disposed of all of his undead minions in the tomb and then I take him on with the halberd but he always kills me with magic by paralysing me and then firing flames at me to kill me. Its not that I can't damage him, my problem is that I can't kill him because he uses the magic on me.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated because I don't want to use cheats as they make games boring.

I have found brother Toras to be one of the most difficult battles in the Original Campaign, actually.

I went up against him with a Paladin (accopmanied by Tomi), a Rogue (accompanied by Linu) and a Wizard (accompanied by Daelan).

The rogue is the only character with which I ever succeeded in taking out Toras in one go... Thanks to the capability of the rogue to take no damage from spells that allow a Reflex saving throw.

With both others, the only solution was to attack, run away to go rest and go back

What character are you throwing at Toras, with what henchman?

Oh you mentioned it, a fighter...

I'm not sure it is even possible to kill Toras in one go with a fighter. And definitely not at level 7. I was level 11 I think, and Toras killed my Paladin with Evard's Black tentacles every time. About 65 damage each round *ouch*

Thanks, is it worth doing the challenge in the Inn or rescuing the Farmer's Wife before I take on Toras?

Thanks to 1.67 the tentacles are really dangerous for low-level characters, still it is possible to hand the lich a beating.

The key as with many spellcasters is to stop them from casting. I hope the dwarven fighter is clever enough to take knockdown as a feat since Toras has no discipline to speak of and will be flat on his back for most of the fight if the attack roll succeeds.

Boost your fortitude save to lessen the chance of tentacle paralysis and drink an invisibility potion to help get close to Toras without incurring hostile spells.

Toras can cast stoneskin so it's worth rushing him before he can pull it off.

I eventually managed to kill Toras by luring him towards the corner you come, using the invisibility potion to get close to him and then attacking him with the halberd. I ran away to rest whenever he dealt me serious damage but I managed to wear him down this way.
Thanks for your advice. If I can help you in the future, I will do so.

Seriously the advice above is the best for fighters v mages in the OC. Knockdown, Knockdown and Improved Knockdown. (and a potion of clarity just in case..)
Without that feat its stone of recall as the suckers can't rest to recall spells like you. (well not you of course, but caster PC's). Many more liches to come btw.

Will those liches succumb to the same tactics or are they easier or harder?

They'll fall to the same tactics. They'll also be easier to beat since you'll be more powerful when you fight them.

My advice for finishing Toras with a wizard:

-Open any chest/cadaver/coffin and the like you happen to find.
-Read carefully the descriptions of any spell you get from there.
-Save the most powerful ones into that cute tiny box or a bag, so you don't feel the temptation to use them. This is also valid for later fights in the game.
-Do all the killing you need.
-At this point, maybe your familiar is not a combat type one. Bad for you. If you happen to up-level close to going to battle Toras, choose a combat familiar. Summon him.
-Now, even if you think loading a savestate is cheating, you should notice that after that closed metalic doors somebody dangerous lurks. So go to Tyr's temple and rest. Choose a lot of spells like Break Spell and the like. The more the better. Maybe some invisibilities and definitely Haste, at least 2 for your henchmen. Also, learn a See Invisible stuff. If you don't throw away potions, you should have useful things like Bull's Strength. Anyway, buy potions of invisibility and speed with the money you have saved. Those are the MOST useful thing in the life of an adventurer, you could almost beat the game just by crossing all the maps while invisible. Get Daelan. With the money left buy yourself something like Planar Invocation. If you can't, a Tiger or several Wolves. Wolves and Daelan will throw Toras into the ground when fighting. Return to Toras' place.
-Get everybody far from the corner where Toras can see you and told them to stay there. Summon the most powerful thing you can and tell him to follow and protect you. If you have saved a familiar invocation, you can tell him to do the same. Just don't move Daelan into the fight.
-Now follow this advice closely: invisibilities for everybody, even Daelan. Cast See invisibles and buff everybody. WHILE invisible, go to Toras. Your buddies will attack. Hide in the corner and, no matter what, prepare a new summon spell. As soon as your familiar dies, reinvoke him. As soon as your invoked creature/planar dies, recast him BUT save one spell or scroll of invocation. Wait until they or everybody but Toras is dead. You might be lucky because Toras can kill himself by throwing Tentacles and being trapped by them. If not, do the following:
-Go out of sight where Daelan is and cast your last creature. Tell them to stay there. Invisibilize them like before and buff them. Go where Toras is and:
-Haste you. Cast Break Spells on Toras, the most powerful you have. Cast Tentacles on him. Drink an invisibility potion. Run away from the tentacles and cast something on Toras. If he's trapped by the tentacles, a Fiery Cloud or some fireballs. If not, some more Break Spells and more Tentacles. Tentacles are Toras' bane. For extra damage, elemental type. Remember to go invisible as soon as you see Toras is too close to you. If after all that you're still unlucky, throw something into him so he can see you and run away to where your henchmen are. Toras is so stupid that he will run after you. When he's close to your buddies, tell them to smash him and run away in circles like a "damsel in distress". If you see your buddies are getting battered, go invisible and keep healing them.
