Just putting this reply to a thread from the NWN2 forums in here as it doesn't have much to do with NWN2

It seems that the implied idea here is that the NWN 1 Live Team is rumored to be disbanded... Some clarification. It never was the NWN Live Team. It has always been the BioWare Live Team. We have worked on NWN, both expansions, all the updates, helped with the BioWare Community Site, external license parties, KotOR PC and now Jade PC, and Dragon Age in the future. Our size and staffing has always fluctuated with the work load. Me and my programmers have about 3 years of work lined up in front of us.
Also, Atari has not been involved in any of the patches for NWN in the last year or so, except for approving new content additions.
There will be a 1.68 update for NWN as there is a significant bug in 1.67 that exists, but thankfully has a workaround. 1.68 will be the last update for NWN and we have been saying that for a while now. _________________ My Gamer Fragged Your Honor Student |

Thanks for the clarification, it's good to hear.
One other issue that came up is if there will be any future Premium Module releases for NWN. |

One GIANT consequence that must be occuring is that BioWare is probably simultaneously shaking their heads in sad frustration and smiling in vengeful anticipation....
....just imagine how many of the cc community will jump ship once DRAGON AGE is released....
No Atari. BioWare's reputation totally intact. No politics resulting from WotC having to okay every damn design decision. No overreaching publisher mucking things up.....
And how f'ing BRILLIANT does BioWare now look having decided NOT to do KotOR 2 & NwN 2??
I have seen the future, and it looks just glorious.... _________________ My vision of Baldur's Gate- Of Gods & Monsters

While I hope the best will happen for Bio as a result, I am also hoping Obsidian will be able to land well after all of this. I plan to support both current projects, but am fighting anger currently, and considering restriction of any future purchase of another D&D PnP product. _________________ Elhanan the Ancient One

If you stop purchasing D&D PnP products you will not effect ATARI. That will impact WoTC and in a minor way Hasbro.
If on the otherhand you meant to say no CRPGs by ATARI. I can tell you many people on our team felt the same way. I am fairly certain most of us will still buy NWN2. We are a curious as the rest of you. The ultimate questions is whether we will work on it. We do not trust ATARI with good reason. Trust is important. Without it a group like DLA or Remington Studios (core of CODI) cannot really interact positively with these corporations.
We at DLA are big fans of Bioware. We are all obviously fans of NWN. Some or all of us may end up being NWN2 fans. It depends on whether it does what we need it to do, and whether Obsidian can maintain the same sense of community as Bioware has managed to foster. _________________ DLA - Technical Designer NPC ACTIVITIES Harvest of Souls [Ron Paul 2008!!] |

I appreciate the clarification. I am not wanting to strike out at Atari as much as wanting to support friends made here over the past years. I am trying to manage any kind of knee jerk reaction, but this was not a pleasing way to start the holiday wknd.
As I have had the sim kind of incident occur (though it was my Team; not the producers that had an issue with greed), I empathize with the plight of all the Dreamers here. _________________ Elhanan the Ancient One

All I can say is, thank you DLA for the coming free release of The Wyvern Crown of Cormyr. Fully rideable horses and a Tir Na Og tileset (TNO)!
That is some great stuff!
Can't wait to see the Ridable Horses. _________________ Myth Drannor PW |

honestly, the PnP line is totally seperate from this. and a polite, calm and well thought out letter sent to various people would far more effective than not buying stuff you'd otherwise buy.
and I too wish obsidian all the best (I loved Kotor2 for all it's faults, and I enjoyed a lot of their previous work under different companies).
I think it's pretty certain that we were all going to buy nwn2 anyway, which is the dismaying part. |

Hi,
Well this is definitely not good news for the community. While it was expected that the patches would come to an end after v1.68, it wasn't expected that the PM-store would get closed as well.
Then I found out that there were, allegedly, three modules planned for this summer! Now I could express myself in various words, but I doubt that would help either of the teams whom worked on the aforementioned modules.
I can only hope that the effort they've put in these project won't go to waste. We can be certain that the DLA-team's work will be "safe" to some degree, but what about the others?
And then, of course, there's the matter of compensations. I'm confident that should they ask for donations, there would be a fair group of people contributing for the work they've done. That’s just my opinion on the matter though.
Darker the days of NWN become, sayeth Yoda.
Edit: Some of this post's content falls within the assumption that the PM-store gets closed down. _________________ - Kris C.

As stated, there will be one last patch for NWN to appear, namely version 1.68. _________________ - Kris C.

I don't understand why there should be tension between NWN1 and NWN2. NWN2 will be, virtually, a SP game for many months. After the PWs begin to get started, people should start migrating from NWN1 PWs to NWN2 PWs for the new features and they should have no problem riding over on their mounts. _________________ Area Pre-fabs: NTB's Eroded Hills and Valleys, 20 Areas NWN2 PWs: LDOA NWN1 PWs: WoA |

I have been waiting for this annoucement for weeks. All I can say is Atari <no> Bioware, DLA and CODI. The fact that Atari pulled the plug on premium modules and NWN1 in general, is not my problem with this.
The issue I take is Atari should have given a deadline in advance saying all your content for NWN1 needs to be on our desk by X date. Instead they just said "No more, have a nice day."
In addition to the 3 PMs for this summer, Bioware had plans for doing PMs for NWN2. One of them a sequel to a well loved PM from NWN1. As of last week those plans were killed to, by Bioware, they no longer have an interest in persueing the legalities. This is probably what disturbs me the most about the entire situation. Bioware got kicked in the teeth hard enough to not want to be involved in NWN2. _________________ Community Designer - Infinite DungeonsEdited By Torias on 05/27/06 13:36 |

Wrong Torias.
I am now boycotting Atari products.
I will be staying with NWN until DA comes out.
I will DEFINTELY not be buying NWN2 now. I will not give Atari another measily dollar. I know that such also punishes Obsidian, and that is unfortunate.
But I will not tolerate my money supporting Atari any longer.
Besides, NWN is getting Ridable Horses from DLA!
W00t!

Right. Dream on. From what I garner, NWN2 Ridable Horses will require the CC Community to purchase copies of Granny (which costs upwards of $10,000) if Obsidian does not release it sometime later in a patch.
And with this latest kick in the teeth of both the Codi Team and the DLA Team, I hope they decide to skip NWN2 and go to greener pastures - like DA. _________________ Myth Drannor PWEdited By WebShaman on 05/27/06 11:53 |
