Today we have some important news to share with the community. EA is restructuring its RPG and MMO games development into a new group that includes both BioWare and Mythic. This newly formed team will be led by Ray Muzyka, co-founder and General Manager of BioWare. With this change, Ray becomes Group General Manager of the new RPG/MMO studio group. BioWare’s other co-founder, Greg Zeschuk will become Group Creative Officer for the new RPG/MMO studio group. Rob Denton will step up as General Manager of Mythic and report to Ray. BioWare’s studios remain unchanged and continue to report to Ray. The new studio group will include the BioWare family of studios (BioWare Edmonton, BioWare Austin, and BioWare Montreal) and now also Mythic (based in Fairfax, Virginia). Please join us in celebrating the new partnership of these award-winning studios! |

Just promise you wont follow Mythic example plix :/ I guess there are thing you can learn from them, considering BioWare is a newcomer to MMOs, but there are so many things that went wrong with WAR... |

I wouldn't worry about it, vasilcho. If you read the press release, "merger" is a nice way of saying "We're letting BioWare control Mythic now". Not to say there isn't a great opportunity for cooperation and learning between both groups, or to disparage it, but this is clearly a case of EA deciding that the RPG company that's doing pretty good should probably assist the one that's been struggling. |

And for the third time I say that this is huge.
And for general interest, I found this post on Warhammer alliance site Click Here
I really wonder what this all means in the long run. _________________ Can god make so heavy a stone that he himself cannot lift it? |

Guess I can, once again, copy paste what I have said in the previous threads about this. : I've posted this on the forums I regularly visit too. I sure hope this does not affect the development of Mass Effect. I never really cared for WAR since I bought it, and that is kind of the only game I can think of when I think of Mythic.
It could potentially have good affects, but like almost all things it could backfire.
I do wonder, will BioWare still be called BioWare? And the same for Mythic? Or will we get 'MythicWare' or 'BioMythic'? _________________ If today was perfect, there would be no need for tomorrow.

if this means better quality games, I declare win.
Dark Age of Camelot was good stuff, and WAR is a respectable MMO, though overshadowed by the highly overrated colossus World of Warcraft, probably because WAR tried to imitate WoW too much instead of trying new stuff.
It's a shame that the BioWare MMO is going to be Star Wars based (No matter how crappy, we've already got a Star Wars MMO), I would have much rather seen a Mass Effect universe MMO. Would have been a great conclusion to the franchise, considering the rich lore built just off the first game provides more of a spine than anything. _________________ To underestimate an opponent has been the last mistake of many throughout history. |

Feels like we're playing ping-pong with the threads.
Anyways, to repeat myself again, this is basically a polite way of saying BioWare is taking control of Mythic, whatwith the good Dr.'s taking the lead positions and BioWare's teams remaining intact and continuing to report to Ray.
I personally doubt we'll even see a name change, but at most it'll be something like BioWare Mythic (like Square Enix), which will shortly be fanon'd down to BioMythic or something. _________________ Peace is a lie, there is only passion. When their bosses are Bioware doctors, I can't help but think that Mythic is now basically Bioware Fairfax. It just seems not much different from Bioware Austin or something. |

Quote from Metallisika's link:
Quote: For clarity:
Mythic is not "merging" with Bioware.
Mythic and Bioware remain independent EA studios within a larger MMO/RPG group.
Thanks!

Oh this is bad. This is really, really bad. Cut the MMOs already. Hell from what I've seen of TOR it'll probably be a SP game that just so happens to have other players in it and requires a monthly fee. There's very little reason for it not to be a SP RPG instead of an MMO. _________________ Mass Effect 1200/1200, Lost Odyssey 1100/1100 Embrace your pain. Yay for more crappy MMOs! When can we see announcements for Mass Effect Universe and Dragon Age: Realms? They're waiting until they have a chance to cancel all other projects and put out nothing but MMOs. What? That hasn't happened? Then what are you complaining about? _________________ My vorpal blade goes snicker-blonk. I think it's broken. |

EA should pair BioWare up with some studio that makes games with amazing graphics and smooth-running engines instead
Not two studios that do similar games, and also have similar weaknesses.. _________________ DA is a zombie musical! |

Just more EA money gobbling. And just the drive to turn games into 'an ongoing relationship with our customers' (i.e. DLC, monthly fees, microtransactions).
I can't wait until the greed reaches critical mass and implodes.
It will take years but it will happen, because they will continue to push the limits of what the consumer will take.
They can't stop.
And it will reach a point where it all collapses.
It's inevitable. _________________ "Rules for Fantastic Medieval Wargames. Case closed. Actor school dropouts may proceed through the left door, perverts through the right, children through the window." |
