Please don't flame or lock this out of hand - this far past the development cycle there may be an option for it.
The history... It has been close to a year since this was last brought up.
Bioware/Atari and Tapwave, back in 2003 had started a project to port NWN to a handheld device (Tapwave Zodiac) but Tapwave went out of business before a product could be released. My understanding is that this was the NWN property being licensed to Tapwave and Tapwave was doing the port. I bring this up because there is a history, albeit short, of Bioware and Atari licensing this property for non-X86 development.
New effort? Now we're rapidly approaching 2010. NWN Diamond now sells for $9.99 (buy.com). NWN was ported to X86 Linux - we all know that. New pocketable devices coming on the scene (OpenPandora's new console for example but not exclusively) operate in Linux on ARM - but other than that are ideal for a mobile installation of NWN. Possibilities also include devices from Nokia, etc...
I'm not asking for a freebie. I would like to speak to someone at Bioware or Atari about licensing the NWN property for recompile to ARM with the intent of reselling it at retail prices through an independent distributor.
The catch? I don't have a proper contact at either company. If anyone on the Linux forum does know someone in Atari or Bioware's licensing sales area, please send me a Private Message.
Thank you. |

In case nobody else has a more specific answer I'd recommend to use the corporate email and/or phone number from the contact site ( http://www.bioware.com/bioware_info/contact ). I'm pretty sure your mail or call will be forwarded to right person. |

I have to agree, going through the forum will most likely yield no results. This is a forum for community members to discuss issues of the current Linux client, you will most likely not see any BioWare official posting here about such an inquiry. _________________ - Eyrdan -

I agree that posting here isn't likely to yield a direct result. My messages to the official in box haven't gotten any replies - most likely being auto-sorted to the circular file.
I posted here on the off chance that someone here may have a friend of a friend or similar contact on the inside.
Just opening up a conversation about projects like this with large companies like Bioware and Atari - and finding the right person to talk to about it can be pretty much impossible without a contact.
At this point I would be happy just to be able to contact someone who can tell me who in their organization would have the authority to say yes/no to a project like this.
Then there are contracts and licensing agreements, gaining access to the source code, compiling, testing, tweaking, compiling to the new platform, marketing the port and trying to find some way to make enough off of the whole mess to cover the expense and effort of doing it.
I still think that NWN + Linux on ARM = mobile NWN has a lot of attraction - and may have an audience. The hardware platforms have advanced far enough to make it feasible - at least in theory.
So, posting here is nearly pointless - but that small glimmer of hope is about all I have for getting a contact to pitch the idea to. |

If the normal channels don't work, maybe you could try looking at the game credits to target specific names. _________________ - Eyrdan -
