I've been asked a lot of questions lately and to help y'all get a handle on what it is I'm offering and what the devil the CAP is, I've written up a general FAQ, which I'll re-post here for you.

What is the CAP?
The CAP is a highly detailed persistent world designed with one purpose in mind - Providing a wonderful setting within which people can role play and adventure.
The CAP is a persistent multiplayer world that uses the best content from our Modding Community combined with the creative talent culled from almost seven years of playing this game.
The CAP is a system developed and refined behind closed doors over the last couple of years and is the product of six years experience in the field of farting around in the Aurora Toolset. The rule set is immersive and addicting. Your character is more than just a toon, but something living and breathing in a world, that lives and breaths with them.
The CAP is a sandbox storybook adventure.

How often will the Server be Updated?
Real life permitting, the server will receive updates weekly, based on the community's input and the needs of the module. See the State of Development for all details regarding updates.

Can I create my own Factions?
Yes. In fact I encourage you to create your own factions. What you will need to do is write a descriptive blurb describing the faction's general philosophy, as I have for the 7 default factions; and give an outline of the Faction's properties (ability bonuses, bonus feats, skill bonuses and appearance). All community created factions will be open to anyone who wishes to belong. See Guilds below.

Can I create my own Guild?
Yup. Guilds must have at least three members to qualify. The first fifty guilds will qualify for a unique language. If you create a guild and a faction, we can discuss possibly making the faction unique and exclusive to members of the guild. 0I'm not gonna guarantee you anything on this front, but its certainly not out of the realm of the possible.

Can I own property?
Yes. However, I'm not going to cut and paste a bunch of areas, if you are not satisfied with just renting a room at an inn or flopping at the the guild hall, I will build you an area (or you may build it yourself). The cost and prerequisites for the area are contingent on your requirements and will be settled up in game.

What are the multi-class rules?
There is only one hard and fast rule here and that is Divine and Arcane character classes can not mix. Its scripted in, so don't even bother trying. Why? PvP balancing. NWN is not designed to support PvP and some class mixes produce unstoppable player-killing machines. To smooth out those inconsistencies this arcane/divine exclusivity was encoded.

What feats are banned?
Dev Crit and HiPS have both been disabled. These two feats have been taken out for the exact same reason as the multi-class restriction.

What spell modifications have been done?
Almost none. Time Stop is an area effect and that's the most obvious one. I don't usually play spellcasters myself so I left them alone. I'm not gonna smurf out a bunch of things because of some vague notion of an imbalance or what have you. Magic is supposed to be powerful, and so it is. Just be mindful of Wild and Dead Magic Areas.

What is the limit on magical items?
Generally speaking, there isn't one. You should be able to find a +3 item with little difficulty. The CAP is structured in such a way to allow for purdy much anything and not have it utterly ruin game balance.
Once you have uncovered the secrets of enchanting, the doors are really blown off and the sky is the limit. The core build philosophy around here is effort = reward. The more you put in, the more you get out; and this exemplified best in the methods by which you can attain phenomenal cosmic power.

These notions are not vague, my friend; but very, very specific and are not based on a whimsy. NWN is not balanced for PvP, you know that as well as I do. These modifications give everyone a chance, regardless of build.

Elkor Alish
Look forward to see you there.

I'm not sure what preventing the mixing of divine and arcane classes does for balance. How many builds of that particular mix are more potentially overpowered than a heavy mage or cleric build? Were ranger/bards and ranger-based AA's threatening to take over the world? What about those poor cleric/bards? Ranger/clerics?

I can only assume that your server is in no way set in the FR. Otherwise, you've totally removed a bundle of completely viable "RP-builds" that certainly wouldn't qualify as being overpowered.

Which impossible-to-defeat builds were you hoping to prevent? Sorc/Pallies? Any divine mix with RDD?

Looks like "smurfing" things based on a vague notion of imbalance from where I'm sitting.

Well you got one thing correct, pal. Its not in the forgotten realms. But I'm guessin' you missed the description of the mod I posted, in your rush to create a fuss.

Don't like it? Don't play. Easy. See I don't give a whit if one or forty people show up to play or if, I'm there by myself. I built he CAP on a ruleset I love, based it on my ideas of what'd be fun and on my experiences as a developer of several other worlds and as a player on several more.

When you have played the CAP, logged in some hours, completed a quest and investigated what it is I've woven then mayhaps I'll entertain your opinions, and being a reasonable cutter, may even act on them. But until then...

And what the devil is an RP build? lol. Thats just silly.

I think you're being overly defensive. Finding one of your "balance decisions" to be arbitrary certainly doesn't qualify as an attack on your project. Since I have no attachments to any particular multiclass concepts (and often don't multiclass at all), I've never refused to try a server based on such restrictions.

In fact, I'd actually joined your forums and downloaded the haks. Of course, being attacked on the public forums for not exactly seeing your reasoning has me wondering how "community-friendly" your server will turn out to be. I imagine it's going to be rather difficult for you to establish your stated goal if you intend to tell off anyone who has an opinion that differs from yours.

Okay lemme get this straight.

A person, self-proclaimed to be inexperienced at using casters, who has been "gripin' and whinin'" about players not touching a bad apple when they see one, and who has yet to state a single fact to support even one of his sweeping statements so far in this thread just told me that I gripe and whine without facts.

Ohhhh boy

Allow me to retort, and this is the final time I'm gonna say anything on this topic - I don't play casters yeh thats right, but that doesn't mean I have not witnessed casters being played on a number of servers under all manner of circumstances - smurfed spells, whacked out uber spells, whatever, what have you... I've seen it as a player and as a DM.

The rules as I have stated in the OP comes from whats it been now? Six years of that observation and interaction.

This post was to answer questions posed to me by the community at large and to spread the word about what the CAP is. It was not to get into some sort of argument about my mod.

I'll not debate my ruleset. I like my ruleset. I like the way it balances at all levels of play. Whether you're a newb just starting out or a 60th level demigod. Whether you're a hack'n slasher or a beatnik farmer - It all plays nicely, smoothly, cleanly.

The Community Adventure Project is about adventure, exploration and fun, if that don't appeal to you, go play NWN2.

I do not, never have and never will abide the positions of someone such as yourself and that other fella griping about something they've not experienced. Its like a l'il four year screamin' he doesn't like something without ever trying it. Or some nancy boy saying he can't, without an honest effort.

Nor will I forward some fictitious sophism just to placate you two.

Until I see your folder in my server vault and a long list of your activities in my logs, you are just another flamer... One to which I do not need to or care to justify myself.

I dunno if you get what my signature says... But 'Vox Populi, Vox Dei' means 'Voice of the People, the Voice of God'. If you can't puzzle out what that implies, well I can't help you.

You got anything else to say to me? Meet me in game.

And that, is all I will ever say about that.

Long live it.
