Chapter One Guide - Part 1 Go to Page (Previous Page - Index, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 - Next Page) The Prologue/ TutorialThe Prologue is designed to give the players a chance to learn about NWN before being thrown into deadly situations- that comes later! All the player has done at this point is create a character, or selected one of the pre-made characters. Players begin play at first (1st) level with some starting equipment. The purpose of the Prologue is also to get the player familiar with the NWN interface and introduce the epic plot.
You will meet Pavel once you exit your sleeping quarters within the Neverwinter Academy. Pavel shuffles you off to his brother Bim. Bim will teach you:
Moving on from Bim, you go through a series of tutorials: Olgerd will teach you:
Berna will teach you:
Pay attention to what these instructors have to say, as they will reveal plot clues that are useful later. You will be told that NW is under the curse of an unnatural plague that has defied a cure thus far. You are given hints that a cure may have been found, and is being housed here at the academy.
Class Skill TrainingThe next stage of your training involves using class-specific skills. A player can tour through the different rooms, learning how all the class-specific skills work, or simply find the relevant training room for their class. All players, regardless of class, must pass through the combat room and learn the basics of combat before graduating from the academy.
Further down the hall are doors leading to the other training rooms. Read the sign posted outside each room to identify what training is provided within.
When you have completed your training go to the main room to meet Aribeth. GraduationAribeth is a Paladin of Tyr, and has been given the responsibility of finding a way to stop the plague within Neverwinter. She is also one of the central characters of NWN. As she is congratulating you on the completion of your studies, a group of mysterious mages teleport in and start attacking the students and teachers of the academy. In the fight, many students and instructors are killed. You return to Aribeth once the fighting is done and she entrusts you with the fate of Neverwinter. She explains that special creatures brought from Waterdeep are being placed under your protection. The creatures are very important because each has a special reagent that is needed in the construction of a cure for the plague. She fears that she cannot aid you directly because she is being magically tracked by an unknown enemy and could endanger the creatures. She instructs you to go through the double doors in the corridor of training rooms and make your way to where the creatures are being held. She gives you a key to unlock the double doors.
The Adventure BeginsYou make your way back to the double doors and enter the rest of the academy. You find Pavel in one the many libraries of the academy. Pavel teaches you how to use henchmen in NWN. You have the option of letting him join your party. You do not have direct control over him, but through various questions and dialogue you can determine his behavior. After a number of simple encounters, to test a variety of your newly learned skills, you meet Geldar. He will instruct you on how to level up, or increase your level of experience. At this point, you might have enough experience to become second level (2nd). If you do not have enough experience to reach second level (1000 experience points required) you will be granted enough experience points to achieve second level. Geldar warns you that the rest of the academy is quite dangerous. From this room, you will continue to search the hallways for the location of the magical creatures that Aribeth mentioned earlier. Stay alert in this section, as you can attract large numbers of creatures, which may overwhelm you. You will eventually encounter one more mysterious mage and fight him to the death. He is guarding the door to the stables where the magical creatures have hidden. After defeating the mage, the academy stables await. Within, you will see a very odd collection of creatures. They will all disappear before you may recapture them. Finally, you run across Fenthick, Priest of Tyr, and Desther, Priest of Helm. They were the ones who brought in the creatures and left them in Aribeth’s care in the academy. Desther is very angry with Aribieth for letting the creatures escape. From here you will go to Halls of Justice (Temple of Tyr) and aid in the recovery of the city. End of Prelude Go to Page (Previous Page - Index, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 - Next Page)
