Chapter One Guide - Part 4 Go to Page (Previous Page - Index, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 - Next Page) The Beggar's NestUpon entering the Beggars Nest, Captain Ergus will give you some information about this zombie-infested area. He will mention that there are two safe locations within the district. The first safe location is the Shining Serpent, which is being used as a temporary headquarters for Harben Ashensmith. The other safe place is the Temple of Helm.
Krestal and JemanieThe first rumor is from a man named Krestal who is holed up in his house. The second concerns a man named Jemanie. He also tells you about a number of people who may still be wandering the streets, or hiding from the undead, who need to be found and escorted to a safe location. Following the Krestal path, which is more difficult than the Jemanie path, leads you to Krestal’s house and the man himself. Krestal will tell you that he used to be a part of a gang called the Sword Coast Boys. He has been attacked recently by zombies that he recognizes as being former gang members. He says that their leader-a man named Drawl- might be found in a large warehouse northwest of Krestal’s house.
‘Regular’ zombies guard the warehouse. Further in, you will find a zombie version of a former Sword Coast Boy. This former gang member is quite tough, and is probably too resilient for a low-level Cleric to turn. Drawl himself is also a challenge and has impressive Spell Resistance. After defeating Drawl, you will move into the Underground Crypt. The Jemanie path will lead you to Jemanie’s house. Jemanie will tell you his brother, Torin, has been swept up into some sort of strange Snake Cult that gathers in a building just north of where you are. Jemanie will give you a special Ward Stone that will help you gain entrance to the building. Once inside the building you will be attacked by a great deal of cultists who will destroy you if you do not have impressive fighting skills, mighty spells or a big, big henchmen. Moving swiftly you can even witness the end of a ritual to summon an imp. Searching through the house, you will eventually run into the Cult Leader, who is more concerned with keeping himself alive than killing you, and makes an easy enemy to defeat. From here take the north stairs into the Underground Crypt to continue your search for the mysterious Gulnan who appears to be the force behind all this strange activity. GulnanThere are three sections to be traversed on your way to the final encounter with Gulnan: the Underground Crypt, The Great Graveyard and the Warrens of the Damned. The Underground Crypt is filled with insects and Shadows (which have the nasty talent to drain your ability scores). You must face the Bloated Dire Spider at the end of the Crypt to continue on to the Great Graveyard.
The Great Graveyard is a vast open-air area that is filled with zombies. You need to locate the entrance to the Warren of the Damned where things get spicy right quick. The Warrens of the Damned is a very large dungeon for the minions of Gulnan. You will face more zombies, and some tougher Ghouls, as you make your way to the final encounter. Along the way, be sure to pick up Torin’s ring to return to Jemanie as proof his brother is dead. You can also pick up the Ancient Key, which gives you access to Gulnan’s lair. Within this lair is a clue to helping defeat Gulnan herself by destroying the power behind all her zombie minions. Simply bash the altar you see atop the platform on your right as you enter Gulnan’s large temple. With that out of the way, you must face Gulnan herself. She is very tough. Gulnan is a 10th level evil Yuan-Ti Cleric with a host of deadly spells. After her defeat, collect her black, black heart. Head back to Harben Ashensmith and he will reward you. Finally head back to Aribeth for a larger reward. Go to Page (Previous Page - Index, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 - Next Page)
