The Confederation of Planes & Planets
Profile by Jay Watamaniuk
One of the original concepts of Neverwinter Nights was the ability to link servers together so players could jump from server to sever, adventure to different lands, and meet different people. A group of persistent worlds has used a plug-in that links themselves together to make traveling between them a reality. We spoke with some of the head honchos of these worlds to get a better idea of what they have set-up for our gaming giddiness.
Is there a website?

What is the Confederation of Planes and Planets (CoPaP)?
Orleron of the World of Avlis: The Confederation of Planes and Planets is an organization of like-minded, autonomous, servervault persistent worlds that have used an NWNX plugin called VaultSTER to link themselves together into a "super-multiverse", allowing a player to seamlessly travel from one world to the next. Our goal is to create the entire D&D setting in Neverwinter Nights, piecing together every plane, planet, wildspace area, and every campaign setting, both official and unofficial. The advantage of our technology is that it allows us to achieve our vision without fear of servervault corruption and security problems that are currently a problem with the conventional methods of sharing servervaults. The advantage of our community is that it is cohesive, yet free-thinking, tight, yet large, and always welcoming of new players.
What were the original goals of VaultSTER and have you achieved those?
Orleron of the World of Avlis: VaultSTER was originally created expressly for the purpose of linking many servervault servers together without the drawbacks associated with sharing a network. That goal has been achieved, but there are a couple of features that we'd like to add eventually, such as polling the connected vaults to find the latest version of the player's .bic file for download into the destination server.
Can you tell me about how your organization is run and how you coordinate all these servers?
BlueCougar of the World Etheria: What I have seen so far within CoPaP is amazing and encouraging. There is a cooperation and support between worlds that aid each in their quest to give the best gaming experience possible to the players. Players are encouraged to move between servers to explore and continue story lines to enrich the gaming experience for all. I am looking forward to the day Etheria links up to see the impact it has on its storyline and on the other servers.
Hermyt of the World of Moonsea: There are centralized forums that all CoPaP world leaders have access to, and we keep track of issues that affect the whole of CoPaP and discuss things that need to be addressed as a group.
Normally, any given world servervault world is isolated from all other gameworlds and is restricted to certain limits due to the limitations of how big a module can be before problems arise. How is what you have done different from other servers in the NWN community that have set up portals between them?
Cromwell of the World of Thay: All servers connected through the Confederation of Planes and Planets have been finely tuned to work well together in unison. This preparation prevents differences in item tables, unbalanced experience, and other issues that would normally arise by simply connecting two servers through a scripted portal.
Now, pretend I have no idea what this crazy moon-language you're speaking is about when it comes to servers and
explain what you have done?
Hermyt of the World of Moonsea: From a player's perspective, what we have is a set of worlds that you can walk through that is as close to seamless as NWN can be. Moving from one server to another is as easy as walking through a door, and this allows us to have a universe with unlimited potential for expansion.
If I have a persistent world and want to get more details, where do I go?
Draxlly of the World Legends of Valinor: The best source for more information about what CoPaP is all about is our website.
A very good place to start gathering information would be to click on the menu item 'About CoPaP'. There, you will find a wealth of information including the following quote:
"Being able to connect autonomous worlds together seamlessly is only the beginning of CoPaP. The connections among these worlds are made to bring about a dream where a person can log into a "super multiverse" of servers and have an endless range of things to do, people to see, and places to go for their character."
You will also find menu selections for a world application form and the 'Articles of CoPaP' in various viewing formats.
What are the names and websites of the independent worlds involved in your organization right now?
