The Confederation of Planes & Planets: Linked Worlds
Profile by Jay Watamaniuk
World Builder and Head Scripter: Hermyt
What are the names and websites of the independent worlds involved in your organization right now?
Our world and server is located around the Moonsea area of the Forgotten Realms. We're the first Forgotten Realms based server to link up with CoPaP.
What sort of vision is your organization pursuing? What do you hope to achieve, and what are your goals?
The vision is to create a virtually unlimited-sized universe of D&D style worlds to travel through and to be able to do that with the same beloved character and friends that you've become attached to.
Can you tell us about the participating worlds and how you all came to be a part of this?
Moonsea is the first Forgotten Realms linked world and we're trying to remedy a number of balance issues that exist in NWN that have large effects on worlds operating in a Persistent World type of environment. We're doing a great deal of script editing and modifications to spells and creatures to toughen them up and bring them a lot closer in line with their PnP equivalents. We're also making a solid attempt at coding dynamic quest generators that will dynamically influence reactions and player standing with various in-game factions to create a more dynamic persistent world environment.
Can you tell me about your player community?
We're slowly building up a devoted player base for our own world, and many worlds claim the same to varying degrees. And then there's the wandering heroes who planewalk between the worlds on a regular basis and can scant call any one world their home.
Are all the participating worlds in your organization exactly the same as far as features and game play? If not, what are some differences?
Part of the CoPaP experience is the diversity of the worlds. There are certain standards agreed upon by the worlds in regards to experience rates and degree of treasure and magical items available. With those commonalities set, the worlds vary in large degree in content and nature, having custom rules for spells and class specific abilities sometimes varying in various worlds. Basically, if the features do not translate and affect other worlds to a great degree then they are customized based on the desires of the world builders.
Are there any plans to expand your project?
The beauty of CoPaP is that the potential for expansion is virtually unlimited. There are always more WIPs (worlds in progress) that are potential joinees for the CoPaP universe.
What kinds of worlds are you looking for to join your organization?
Worlds that have the consistent profile of standard D&D worlds, sword and sorcery style. High technology mods wouldn't balance in too well with the flavor of CoPaP, but we have Spelljammer worlds in progress, other planes, custom campaign worlds, and traditional D&D campaign worlds as well.
