Boss Monsters: Widow Hagatha

In her prime, Hagatha was known as the fairest of all the giants, fair enough to turn the head and win the heart of Hilgoth, the wise and mighty Prince of the storm giants. Their wedding was to unite the giants, evil and good alike, in peace and prosperity beneath their rule, swearing their fealty in a binding oath until the end of time. But one of them, a treacherous cloud giant by the name of Vashanel, was jealous of Hagatha's love. Driven bitter and mad with lust, he killed King Hilgoth just as the ceremony ended. Fighting between the two races of giants erupted, and Vashanel stole away with Hilgoth's body. The guards caught up with him on the castle ramparts, built as it was on the precipice of a roiling thunderhead. Cornered, Vashanel threw Hilgoth's corpse over the edge, leaping after him to plummet to his death far below. Among the giants, it is said that the Sea of Fallen Stars was formed by their shared impact.

For many years thereafter, Widow Hagatha wandered the lands of men in search of her loving husband's last remains that she might bury them and grant his soul some rest. The trail led ultimately to Halaster, who had claimed the giant's bones for his studies. As the eons have passed, the wizard has slowly ground the King's bones to dust for use in his countless spells and concoctions. All that remains is Hilgoth's ring finger, which has been shaped into a staff. The wedding band is still upon it as even Halaster, with all his magics, has been unable to pry it loose.
