Restless Night

After all the details of your character are worked out you must rest for the evening in your room at the Yawning Portal Inn. You have a vision of a Drow Elf queen who has been told that there is one who will destroy her. Her wizard begins a spell that shows her the face of her would-be nemesis; it is you. She dispatches her wizard in disgust and sends an assassin to deal with you.

Tamsil

You awake to find a thief stealing your priceless possessions leaving you with only the shirt on your back, if that. You attack the thief with the only weapon you have: a small dull blade. Tamsil, the Inn Keepers fetching daughter, bursts into your room at the sounds of a struggle. The player will learn that Waterdeep has been the target of several assassinations of prominent citizens. The doors to the city have been closed for the time being until the attacks have been stopped. Durnan, her father, has been asked to organize an expedition into the Undermountain to seek out the source of those attacks. She adds that some spare equipment can be found in the Inn’s armory.

Exit your room after taking the few items off your failed assassin. To your immediate right is a room with an iron gate that holds a good deal of free equipment. Outfit yourself somewhat before you begin your adventure. You will find a small selection of melee weapons, several missile weapons, a few choice suits of armor, a few miscellaneous magic items and a sack of gold coins. Do not despair that your chosen weapon or suit of armor is not available as there is an equipment shop in town with a wider selection (see Argali’s Arms).
